While many of us may feel this way in the immediate aftermath of this election, I think it’s actually important that SNL (and everybody else with a mind to) continue to relentlessly mock Trump as much as possible. Satire can be a potent social tool.
But does the satire accomplish anything? Listen to the recent Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast on satire (Revisionist History). I learned quite a bit from it and hadn’t considered that both liberals and conservatives can view something like the old Colbert Report as being on “their side”.
Well, the SNL satire made Trump mad… so, it accomplishes that…
Alec Baldwin is returning as Donald Trump on the next Saturday Night Live and he says he’ll continue to portray him “every now and then”.
