Snowblower FAQ

There seems to be some ambiguity in my town about the meaning of 2-stage snow blower. There are 3 kinds of theories floating around and i’m hoping to narrow it down to just 1 fact.

  1. First stage is the spiral tines in front that break up snow and move the snow into the auger. Second stage is the auger launching the snow up the chute.

  2. Stage 1 means that you have to push it around yourself whereas 2 stage means it has it’s own transmission.

  3. Stage 1 just means 1 constant operating RPM. Stage 2 means that when the engine bogs down the RPM will open the air/fuel mix and get more power going to the engine to help the boggingness (?)

So what’s the real meaning of 2-stage snow blower?
