So, anyone else getting lots of emails with viruses attached?

For the last couple of months I’ve been getting spam emails with the W32.Sober.I@mm virus attached. Anywhere from one to four a day. SBC Yahoo’s virus scanner catches them before even AVG can, so none have gotten through, and AVG would catch them at night anyway. But I can’t tell where they’re coming from. All the emails have typical spam titles, “Re: your password” and stuff like that.

None of the email headers match, to indicate that one of my friends or family members is inadvertantly responsible, and I contacted all of the less technologically inclined people in my address book to make sure they’re running a virus scanner.

Anyone else suddenly bombarded with virus emails?

Yeah - me! It started almost a week ago. I’m getting close to 100 spam e-mails per day, and about 6-8 of them contain a virus. Usually it’s the “Netsky” virus. That’s up from about 100 per week or two.

I’m getting hot stock tips like you wouldn’t believe. And hey, if I ever need some oxycontin without a script - I’m all set!

I just talked to a rep at my ISP about an hour ago, and he says he’ll up my spam filters on their end. If that doesn’t work, I’m just gonna change my addy.

I’ve been getting a lot (well, relatively) a lot of those emails. They are caught by EarthLink’s virus blocker. It seems like I get a “virus alert” email from EarthLink a lot more frequently these days.

My non-EarthLink emails may be getting viruses too for all I know, but since I only use an email client (email software) on my Mac, it’s not something that concerns me. (I use webmail to pick up mail when I’m on the PC.)

About a week ago, my inbox was flooded with mail from majordomo@wired.com, or something similar. Took about a day before the flood died down. Anyone else got hit with that?

Must’a been YASWVAW (Yet Another Stupid Windows Virus At Work)…

No, mine are coming from a variety of places, and they always have that one worm virus in them. Some of the email addresses are even from legit places like Harper Collins (the publisher).

Tons of them.

All I ask is 5 minutes alone in a room with a virus writer, with no legal repercussions…

I’m getting a lot of spam emails with attachments. I couldn’t tell you what those attachments are, though, because I don’t even open the spam, I just move them into my junk folder (if they didn’t land there in the first place) and then I empty the junk folder. But I’m definitely noticing that almost all of the spam I’m getting these days has at least one attachment per spam.

Had a stretch last week where I was getting a flood of virus attachments (Zafi.D) and then after I blocked the email addy it was coming from, that stopped. Started up briefly again this week (Zafi.D again) and as soon as I blocked the new addy it was coming from, it was over with.

no, but I’m getting a lot of emails attached to my incoming viruii.

I have. And it’s someone from Russia.
