Given how popularWicked is, I’m pretty surprised that the sequel was publish with no fanfare. I didn’t know it was even coming out, and just happened to find it in the library the week it was published.
I really enjoyed Wicked, which shocked me given that I loathe the movie. This sequel… Well, it wasn’t a bad read, and it was a pretty quick one, so it has that going for it. Oh, and it neatly wrapped up the two biggest mysteries in the last fifteen pages in a skillful way I wasn’t expecting.
On whole it wasn’t nearly as dense or rich as the first book. And I found myself rolling my eyes during scenes which made it clear that Maguire wears his politics on his sleeve - he doesn’t like Bush, I get it; the veneer is too thin not to. I waver between a B and a B- for its grade.
Did anyone love or hate it, or was everyone sort of eh about it too?
