Probably not unless you worked really hard at it. I’m reading it more as that post, in a fair succession of posts, is an example of how he crossed the line. I like Bill and a lot of what he’s had to say but that whole thread looked like him cruising for a bruising and he finally got it.
Why on Earth is he quoting himself in that post? He’s so fed up with what he’s saying, that he’s going to vote Trump (and what does Trump have to do with that, anyway?)?
You are misreading it. The remark had nothing to do with the original thread or billfish’s complaint. It was completely inappropriate for ATMB.
Of course not, if it was in a political thread or some other appropriate context. I believe others have said that and not received repercussions. However, if you popped into GQ and posted it in a thread about physics or chemistry it would be trolling and you might be warned for it.
billfish apparently said he “almost hoped Trump wins” because he received a mod note for insults on a message board. This is clearly ridiculous and an obvious attempt to yank chains.
Besides that, in his other replies to the thread he had been trolling anyway. He claimed we were “circling the wagons” although only one mod (me) had addressed the complaint. He dared us to ban him. He told us to “kiss my shiny metal ass.” It was obvious he wasn’t making a serious complaint, but trying to be as obnoxious as possible. I told him this was trolling when I closed the thread. He could have been warned for his general behavior; I just chose to quote the most egregious example in issuing the warning.
ATMB is available for the purpose of allowing posters to complain about moderator actions. Using it to play the fool and taunt the mods is an abuse of system.
My guess is the implication is that unjust banning would lead to posters leaving maybe splintering a board and if enough people do so what’s the point of a message board with few posters? That said outside of rare circumstances most posters don’t have that level of popularity to cause even a minor exodus to a splinter board.
Or they’re implying that at least there would be some kind of protest or blowback from their banning. In my experience, the general reaction of posters to the banning of an “I dare you to ban me” type has been rejoicing.
