So, explain my dogs behavior

I’ve had tons of different dogs over the years. Bulldogs, black labs, goldens, mutts, etc…

Our current dog is a 7 year old pure bred pug we got when he was a pup.

He’s the only dog I’ve ever had that absolutely hates riding in the car. He doesn’t like hanging out the window. He shakes, shivers, and whines like a big pussy.

On the way there, any way!

When ever I take him to the groomer, like I did tonight, he cries and shakes.
All the groomer did tonight was clip his nails.

On the way home he had a big ol’ red rocket sticking out of his [former] ball sack.

Why?

Whenever I take him to the groomer he makes a sissy fuss.

On the way home he’s hard as a rock, grinning with his tongue a hanging out.

Why?

I watch her do it. she’s not blowing him or giving him anything orally.

Why is this dog so turned on and happy on the trip home?

Because dogs have a bone in their penis, they can extrude it just with the way they are sitting or if they relax the muscles in their pelvis, not because they are sexually aroused.

It sounds like your dog is scared when he first gets into the car because he has learned that something bad happens at the end of the first ride (ie, nail trim), but the second ride is to something good (ie, home) so he is more relaxed.

When you take your dog someplace in the car, is it more likely that you are going to the groomer/vet or to the beach/dogpark? I ask because, if your list of previous dogs owned is accurate, it looks like this is the first time you’ve had a smaller breed of dog. People are less prone to taking small breeds of dogs out on random fun outings like hiking and frisbee. The only time small dogs really go in the car is when they have to go to the vet or the kennel or the groomer, which are all stressful places for dogs.

If this sounds accurate, you may want to treat your pug more like a big dog and take him on more fun outings so he won’t think that evil hairless monkeys are going to subject him to scary things and the end of every first car ride.

My $0.02.

We take him lots of places he wants to go to. He whines there AND back.

Except for the groomer. On the way back from there he’s all happy nd with a hard on. He doesn’t do this coming home from anywhere else.

I should have said this in the OP.

So, is there a smell or something inside the groomers that’s turning him on and making him happy? He doesn’t get to smell other dogs butts like he does at the park. Does he feel pretty afterward?:stuck_out_tongue:

hmm.

Does he usually just go to the groomer for nail trims? I mean, generally pugs don’t need the full dye, cut, and curl jobs.

Does the groomer drug him? Our dog was scared of water, he shook so bad, that twice a year we’d give him a bath (he was pretty clean, and oddly enough he loved snow), the vet would give him a tranquilizer to calm him down. He also got a nail clip and such.

He was very happy on his way home.

No. I know there are drugs and herbs they can use to calm them down but I was right there. They gave him nothing.

My dog gets erections when he’s agitated in any sense, not necessarily when he’s “happy.” Perhaps your dog goes to the groomer frightened and unhappy, and goes home frightened, unhappy, and overstimulated.
