So, fireworks are a thing for Labor Day weekend now?

… or is it just my 'hood setting them off?

Oh, lordy, please let it be just your 'hood and just last night. I haven’t heard any here, and it sounded like the blitz around July 4th. Were they going off all around you, or was it just some drunken neighbors with an arsenal?

I haven’t heard them here, yet (knock on wood), but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least; any excuse, ANY EXCUSE for fireworks around here and you’ll hear them, any time of the day or night.

Yeah, no doubt they would have been hammering this neighborhood with fireworks if it were a thing. Have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps budgets have constricted.

As I read the title, some just went off…

As of 11:30pm CDT, not a firecracker heard in the second largest city in a midwestern state.

They are illegal here, except July 3rd and 4th, for what that is worth. Usually they start 2 weeks before the 4th and don’t end til a week after, but none for last 2 months.

I heard what sounded like an explosion just a few minutes ago. There are definitely people around here that shoot off fireworks whenever there’s remotely an excuse to.

It seems that my neighbors bought a lot of fireworks (I’m assuming due to the pandemic, and hints of a shortage) and didn’t get them all blown up for The Fourth of July Through August and are now using Labor Day as an excuse to finish them off.

This area is big on illicit fireworks on any random night. Have not heard any so far this weekend.

Any excuse. Usually starts Memorial Day, which isn’t a cause for fireworks, and lasts until New Years Eve.

Plus, check out this extravaganza of misplaced bullshit:

Had a ton going off in my neighborhood last night.

And Valentines Day, of course.

Not around here. People use the rest of them up on NYE because we’re usually shoveling for the next 8 -12 weeks.

Come to think of it, I’d like to hear some on Christmas.

Same here (big Nebraska city). Our police are sensible and level-headed and leave this alone, even though it’s technically illegal. Fine by me, I enjoy it, sitting on my couch in my pj.s at midnight.

I wondered what the hell those booms were last night.

It was a reference to the thing that happens on the night of Valentines Day that people sometimes describe in terms of fireworks.

I had two brothers that were both born on 1/31. I counted backwards and I could never figure out what was so special about 4/16, neither one of my parents were tax preparers.

Over the years I have notices that fireworks on New Years, Memorial and labor day are becoming more of a thing. I have even noticed them on Thanksgiving but that was rare.

Briefly noisy here yesterday evening - FCD thought they were gunshots, but some were definitely firecrackers. It didn’t last long, and I don’t think the dog even noticed.

i hate, I Hate, I HATE fireworks!
