They’re trying to discuss how things can be worked between the parties. Suddenly, a covey of quail burst out of the shrubs and Chaney, true to form, doesnt look before he shoots and hits and kills Bush.
Cheney, overcome with emotion, has a massive heart attack and dies. And there stands Nancy, the POTUS.
As much as Democrats are enjoying the change of control in both houses of Congress, let me remind you that Pelosi is not the Speaker of the House. Hastert is. In January, that will change, but for roughly the next two months, Republicans are still in charge.
[Hijack]What would have changed if Rumsfeld had resigned on Sunday? Monday? Would some swing voters be more satisfied with Bush because of this admission of fault, or be more determined because he’s finally gone? [/hijack]
Well, that’s what it seems to some people… Anyway, there are still nine House races that won’t be decided too soon, and one that’ll take a long time to clear up (LA-02).
Having looked on Wikipedia, I find that Louisiana’s elections are always primaries with all candidates from all parties participating on November Whateverth. Around a month aterwards, the two with the highest number of votes have another election; it looks as if both will be Democrats this year, as the top three (out of thirteen) are all Democrats. So Democrats have a guaranteed 230 seats in the House.
If the numbers (which I get from CNN) don’t change substantially, which is by no means a particularly safe assumption, Democrats will end up with 233 seats.
True, it’s not; I think virtually all of the election news during the next week or so will be speechifying; those races could take a while, and they don’t make a huge difference.
And the game warden shows up, says, “Nice Buck, boys, but you’ll find it easier to drag if you pull him by his rear legs rather than his antlers.”
“He’s right, Mr. President” says Cheney, so B&C drop the antlers, walk around to the back of the deer and pull him by his rear legs.
About an hour late, Nancy says, “It sure looks like it’s easier to pull the deer by his rear legs than his antlers, but we’re getting further and further away from the truck.”
I saw some right wing pundit describe Nancy Pelosi as being “a heartbeat away from the presidency.” I took that as a tacit admission that Cheney does not, in fact, posses a heart.
So, like, what happens for the next two months? Will any official business be conducted? Any votes? Just non-important stuff? Does everybody go on vacation? Are the houses not in session, but everybody meets behind closed doors to figure out committees and such?
They have some make up sessions to finish off operating budget items, but it is my understanding that there is no other sort of business on the docket until the new Congress convenes next year.
I was talking about this with a friend weds. The way I settled on putting it is that Speaker Pelosi (come january) will be two lack of heartbeats away from being POTUS.
