I’m sure there are some Phoenix Dopers out there… I saw a job announcement out there I might be interested in, and was wondering how you like the area. Best things, worst things?
I saw an old post that mentioned that public transit there was pretty bad. Is this thoroughly true, mostly true, or merely partially true?

I’m from Tucson, but I lived for a year in Phoenix. It sucks horribly. But then, I don’t like heat.
I spent two years in the Tempe-Mesa area.(this just east of phoenix). My only complaint is the heat. Mesa is just a giant suburb, so it was a nice place to be. But the heat… I have nightmares about it.
You walk out in that, and you immediatedly feel it straight to your bones.
Lets see… Oh, the winter. Expect the population to increase every winter. hundreds of thousands of seniors move in. Clogs up the roads quite nicely. There is a city, east of Mesa, called ‘Apache Junction’. This city actually more than doubles in size when the snowbirds (PC term: winter visitors) move in.
Then there’s the weirdest thing. Some of the streets are cupped, so that the rain water will flow right down the middle. This is so the water can quickly get to sunken parks called ‘retention basins’.
Arizona is just wierd.
All said, It’s a nice place to live. Just stay inside between May and October.
