So, how do you SDMB?

I’ll do a vanity search if I posted a lot the previous day, so I can see any responses to those threads. I get to work at 6:30 a.m., so I don’t usually tax the hamsters with one search. I try never to search during the daytime, both to keep from slowing down the servers and because it’s just about impossible to do so anyway.

Otherwise, I check whichever forum had a thread I most remember from the previous day, then check either MPSIMS, IMHO or the Pit, not in any particular order. I very occasionally check GD and GQ, and even less often, the other forums.

What, am I the only one using “user cp”?
The emails are a tedious side effect, but I just delete them en masse. Every morning, I check the user cp for the threads I’m involved in.

Then I make the rounds: CS, IMHO, GQ. If I’m bored, MPSIMS, GD, and the pit. If I’m real bored, Comments and ATMB.

You & me both, gonzoron ! The User CP/Subscribed threads feature was the very finest part of the last upgrade, as far as I’m concerned.

From there we diverge. I almost always search for new posts after viewing the user cp. Then, I go back to the first page of new posts & refresh, to see if I’ve got a quick reply.

I rarely check the forums directly.

Another vanity poster checking in. User CP?

goes to check it out

Ok, user CP seems to do the same thing that a vanity search does. But, the page takes a while to load. Do we have reason to believe that user CP is easier on the hampsters than doing a search? It seems to me that user CP might just be another way of searching.

I’m such a newbie. I just wonder around for about an hour at a time…since I don’t have to go to work  Not really sure how to do all those crazy e-mail things you guys are talking about, but I do like MPSIMS and IMHO the best.

Hmm, I didn’t know that, about the subscribing to threads bit. I often subscribe to threads that look interesting, but I haven’t replied to. Obviously I shouldn’t be doing that. And I always check email notification. I have it set as my default.
I just remembered reading once in ATMB that doing vanity searches was hard on the servers, and never did it.
I guess my never doing vanity searches makes up for all my email notifications.

Morning at a work: straight to GQ for new things I might know
…then off to threads I participated in…then over to IMHO and MPSIMS.

I stay away from GD and the Pit hasn’t kept my interest.

I can’t even read some of the GD dribble. Besides, I have all the answers to lifes greatest questions.

User CP isn’t quite the same as a vanity search. It only shows threads you’re subscribed to (i.e. email notified). So it won’t pick up someone Pitting you. I wasn’t aware subscriptions were hard on the hamsters. They’ve got to be better than searches, though, no?

I think the hampsters may have a union. That would explain a lot.

Go to MPSIMS to read anything that looks interesting, peak into to Pit but never raise my head above the battlements as I am generally far to scared then off to IMHO.
After this it depends on how I feel. Never done a vanity search as I don’t like to worry the hamsters.

I have no idea what I’m doing here!

MPSIMS, IMHO, CS, BBQ Pit, MPSIMS, GQ

Very, very carefully.

I read every new ATMB post (which typically takes about 5 minutes), then I check out either MPSIMS ot the Pit, depending how I feel and if I’m involved in anything in the Pit, then the other of that pair. Recently I barely open any MPSIMS threads though. Sometimes I get burned out on the board at that point and I go play basketball. Otherwise I scan Cafe Society and GQ and check up on whatever few GD threads that I’ve been following. When im the habit of posting a lot to many different forums I’ll do a search on my posts every couple days to make sure there wasn’t anything I missed.

I’m not sure how I just did that or where this thread came from and how I didn’t know it was 10 days old.
