Just what are your SDMB habits..

I log on to the net…open up SDMB. Glance through the forums. Read what catches my eye. Open another window and go on with my chats and surfing all the while checking back for new additions from time to time. I don’t read every post…after all I’m not Handy. How do you do it?

I’m here almost every night and the routine is always the same. Start off in GQ and “Open in New Window” each thread I want to read from page 1, then I let page 2 start loading as I then begin to read each of the open threads, closing each window as I finish. None of that forward/back nonesense which makes me lost my place. And the forum pages don’t have to reload either.

Then I move on to MPSIMS and do the same thing.

I like to sign on and start threads in the wrong forumn. That’s always cool!!

My usual habit is to search for my name on recent posts, then move to GQ, and maybe to MPSIMS.

And once in a blue moon I also like to ask whether a question is occupying the wrong forum. Like this question, for example…

I start in GD and delve into whatever topics I was currently involved in or closely following, then check out any new threads which are of interest and participate as necessary (which is not as much as I just read without posting, even given my somewhat prolific posting there). Then I will either head to GQ or the Pit depending on my mood at the time, but I rarely read pit threads unless the title is particularly intriguing (ie- a doper is under attack from another doper). Every once and a while I head into MPSIMS or IMHO, and in that order.

I am unaware of how to work Caf-ay Socie-tay into the mix, I think I’m going to squeeze it inbetween GD and GQ.

Read a thread, move a thread. Read a thread, move a thread…

Off to IMHO.

I pretty much cycle through the last four boards over and over. It’s been kind of slow at work lately, so I’ve had more time to do this. I also check out General Questions, but not as often.

Check the Pit. Examine any suspicious posts/posters. Bite people as necessary. Check ATMB (particularly if Tuba’s gone off to the track again, wasting money on slow cars and fast men). Bite more people. Wander through the other forums to see if I am interested in any threads, and to see if anything needs action. Bite still more people. Examine the newest registrations. Sigh. Remove those who don’t have a valid email address (the idjits!). Make note of which handles are likely to be the newest incarnations of one of our more persistent trolls. Wish for CyberSlap.

Hit the View New Posts button. Enter a few and burble on dribblingly. Leave.

Oh, I muck about in my real life until the withdrawal symptoms kick in and I start to shake. Then I log in and check out ATMB first. After that I go down to the Pit (my favorite) and work my way up through the forums, opening threads with interesting titles or threads started by someone I know to be intelligent, funny, profound, and/or cool. Sometimes I feel the need to chime in. I try to contain my jibbering to the places where it will do the least damage, like, say, IMHO.

Whiner.

I don’t really have any SDMB habits.

Check out Cafe Society, post a bunch.
Then go to IMHO, MPSIMS, and the Pit.
Then it’s to GQ to see if I can help fight ignorance. Most often that not, people beat me to it.
If I have time, I go back to my posts or my already failing threads and see if anyone has responded and/or quoted me. Then I log off.

when I first came upon the SDMB, I checked out the forums individually. now i usually just check the “new posts” thing. It started as convinence thing but now I’m addicted, i try to check the whole forum, but the “new post” button just keeps calling me. oh please won’t you make it stop!!!

GQ is what brings me here, so I always watch for something that: A) I might be able to contribute an answer to, or B) something I’ve not yet considered that yields responses full of education.

That’s what I check first. Then off to MPSIMS to check for friends - I’ve met enough that I occasionally join the jawflappers. I rarely visit the BBQ Pit, but sometimes I see a comment begging contribution there. Next choice is ATMB and then this forum. I do visit the Comments forums occasionally, and the Artsy Fartsy forum hasn’t quite made it on my list yet.
