By routine, I mean, how often do you visit the SDMB.
How often do you post?
Are there certain rules you follow with your posts? (For example, the longer the thread length, the more likely I will not comment.)
Do you create more threads than you answer?
Do you save up topics (or questions) and post multiple new topics at the same time? Do you reply to topics in a similar fashion?
Do you employ tabbed browsing, or multiple open windows if you like more than one thread?
I read the dope almost daily and often throughout the day:
I start with the **User CP ** button to see if any threads I am following have been updated. If I am addressed with a question, I reply. If I find something I think should be commented on, I do.
I then usual check **New Posts ** button. I scan through, pop open a few threads and reply, as I feel fit. I am more likely to open threads from a group of a few dozen posters. I use the hover over preview often. Any topic that tickles my fancy I open. A thread with many replies, I am less likely to open.
I will usually check the ATMB & Pit specifically at some point.
I post a lot, with a high ratio of posts to ops. I am opinionated, gabby and eclectic, so I end up all over the place and in most forums.
I check the front page of the Straight Dope in the late morning. Read the latest column and check out the thread spotting.
I usually start with MSPIMS and head up the list. When it comes to Great Debates, I rarely post there anymore unless it’s page 1 or 2 of something I’m interested in because debates start to stray so far after that and it’s impossible to wrangle them back after that.
I rarely hit the Pit. I think I’ve posted there 4 times.
I log on when I get to work in the morning and check at various times during my breaks and conference period. I usually start in CS, then hit IMHO, MPSIMS, The Pit, then GQ. I’ll drop into GD every other day or so, just to see if there is an historical thread I might be interested in. I’ve never used the New Posts button once in all my time here.
Come here once or twice every week or two, and head straight to The Pit. After about 10 or 15 minutes of browsing, if I’m still bored I’ll check out MPSIMS or IMHO or Cafe Society. I don’t use the boards that often anymore.
I get on a couple times a day. I start at the home page, and open MPSIMS, IMHO, and GQ in seperate tabs. I work my way through them in that order, opening threads whose (somebody help me here, threads are not a person, what word am I supposed to use?) titles I like in new tabs, and then closing the forum. Although lately, most of my doping has involved repeatedly hitting “F5”.
I read it once or twice a day. I normally start with the UserCP and then go through GQ, the Pit, MPSIMS, IMHO, and Cafe Society, in that order.
I generally skip GD. I will look through ATMB once every week or two. Same with the Comments forums.
I’m less likely to post to long threads mainly because either what I have to say has already been said, or the thread has drifted significantly from a post I want to respond to.
I log in when I have time. I hit New Posts and look at all the threads that might interest me. If there is one that doesn’t have too many replies and I have something to say, I’ll post. I don’t know how often that is for sure, some days pretty often, some days hardly at all.
I check my subscribed threads first, to see if anything new or interesting has developed. Next, I move onto CS, and typically I move right down the list to the Pit. I’ll check GQ and GD last if I have the time. My post rate typically hovers around 0.7/day. It’s funny; after I subscribed, I found I didn’t really have all that much to say.
I usually don’t comment on threads that are longer than one page. I’ll often read them, but I just don’t feel like thrusting myself into the convo at that point. Exceptions are made if I’m already involved before the jump to multiple pages.
I don’t create many new threads, and I ALWAYS use tabs. Sometimes the servers stop responding, so I prefer to open as many threads as I can while I’m still getting a response.
First: Look for new posts in threads I currently subscribe to. Read and reply if appropriate.
Next: Look for new threads whose titles intrigue me, and which are currently still on their first page. I won’t walk into a thread with >50 posts unless I’m really, really drawn by the title. Too lazy to catch up, I guess. The forums I look through are, in order: CS, IMHO, The BBQ Pit and MPSIMS.
I also occasionally search by certain keywords that interest me. No, I won’t tell you what they are.
I only go to the other forums if the thread displayed on the main page is really interesting, or if a Pit thread references something that happened there.
It really depends on the title. There are posters who I will check out regularly, but if the title is something that doesn’t interest me, I’ll move on along. A Qadgop thread on knitting, for example, wouldn’t even be a blip on my radar, although he is a friend and we share a number of interests.
