-The first one went 9 months and was replaced under warrantee…
-it’s replacement needed a new battery 8 months after that.
-two months after THAT, the nylon brush gears stripped.
-Got a 500 series for Xmas from the wife and kids. 10 hours of use in and it needed a new brush deck. 6 months in and it’s been sent back with a charging error.
In the meantime, I bought replacement nylon gears ($40 ) for the out of warrantee iRobot and it lives in semi retirement just sweeping up my office occasionally.
Point being, I paid $150 total for the first two, and $250 for the second one and they CAN’T be making any money on me due to the warrantee repairs!
I got a second hand Roomba a couple of years ago. Robbie gets put to work every day. We have replaced the brushes ($20) and recently, one of the motors blew after it got some dirt caught in it (or was it that the brush got dirty and seized causing the motor to seize?). Either way, it cost $40 for the replacement part which included shipping to Australia from the US and my husband had it fixed in twenty minutes. I am so happy with Robbie that I was going to buy the new$700 version if he couldn’t be fixed.
My Roomba is a little over a year old. Its battery died after about 9 months and I got a free replacement (after about a thousand questions from the representative to determine if the problem was the battery after I told her, “It’s the battery”). The dustbin does not stay on, so I tape the sides with scotch tape to keep it on- pretty easy fix. The side turny brush lost one of its brushes in a violent altercation with my fringed rug- that one was my fault for letting it in that room. Replacement is under ten bucks, I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
I got one for my Mom and it never worked right. It just goes in circles. I thought she was using it wrong, but after checking it myself I found she was doing everything right.
Mine has died (well, does the Circle Dance) and I need to follow up with their customer service about that…I sent an initial email but haven’t taken the time to do more. It lasted about a year.
Coming up on two years for our Discover model. Bought it as a refurb on woot.com. It’s on it’s third battery now. The first one went after a year, and they didn’t give a damn, so I bought a second one, and that fizzled out within six months, and they replaced it – with the cheapest model of battery available. Doesn’t make me too happy, but with a 1500 sq ft condo condo and four cats – gotta love the 'bot!
Mine was only useful for about a year. I was disappointed by it and the job it did. The little red sweeper arm was a continuous problem and poorly designed. Their answer was to send me three free ones, but as it would not stay on, it was a worthless fix.
It needed constant cleaning and ended up being almost as much work as vacuuming.
Boy, that little bugger makes a lot of noise, dunnit? (The Roomba, not the cat) I’d think it would be a little scary when it turns on in the middle of the night…!
I started a thread on Roomba’s awhile back and got lots of responses.
The first one I bought was a lemon - took it back and exchanged it and the new one works great!
We have all hardwood floors (except for one throw rug) and it does a great job - gets to places we never got with a regular vacuum (under the sofas, under the beds) and we run it pretty much every other day when we leave the house. We are amazed at how much dust and dirt it picks up, even with doing it so often!
If this one ever dies - we will most certainly have it repaired or buy a new one.
BTW, for those of you having some problems - give their customer service a call. There is a simple trick to “re-set” it, and then give it a total re-charge.
Yeah but only for a few seconds. Imagine the nerve, but right after the Roomba cleaned the aisle, some little girl walked after it littering the whole way!!!
