So how much money did you blow on last night's festivities?

Coupla live lobsters, a six-pack of Samuel Adams, and a bottle of white Cotes du Rhone: $63. Best New Year’s Eve dinner I ever had.

And went to bed at 9, as usual. The skyrockets didn’t even wake us up this year.

My parents spent $30 for 10 steaks they bought at the grocery store for our dinner with our relatives. The labour my mom put in to cook everywhere was probably a lot more than that.

Let’s see. Ten of us played poker until 6 a.m. and I lost $217. At one point, I was down about $400. It was one of the those night, where I was getting cards just good enough to play. Like hitting a flush and losing to a boat. It was fun though. I was up quite a bit for the year, so it wasn’t too bad.

** dogbutler**, you drink the same thing I do!

Bottle of Absinthe - $80
Bottle of Absolut Vanilia - $40
Assorted chips, cups and mixers - $60

Two days of compliments about the brilliant party we hosted - priceless.

Between $200 and $250, hosting a party for about 40 people. I consider it money well spent for two reasons:

  1. It was a fabulous party that went from 7 p.m. until almost 4 a.m. - Everyone had a good time, including me, which is unusual for when I’m the host (I’m usually too busy running around making sure there’s enough food, other people are having a good time, etc. to really enjoy myself)

  2. There’s enough leftover beer, pop, and snacks to have another party in a couple weeks, so the actual cost of this party is somewhat less.

Free bottle of cheap champagne from Christmas guest.
A few beers I had left over from the Christmas party.
Watched the GREAT fireworks on the Las Vegas Strip from my kitchen window.

So…grand total…$3.00 for the beer I had left over from the Christmas party, but I considered the night, “free”.

There were 300,000 people partying on The Strip, about 7 miles from my house, and I was quite happy to be home and watching the same event from afar. Fireworks ended at 12:09 and I think we were in bed, asleep, by 12:23.

$10 for some Thai food before we went out.
$25 for a couple of bottles of wine to take to a pre-party gathering.
$60 for my share of the bar we rented out (open bar until 1am and appetizers included in this price)
$10 maybe in cab fares

So around $100. It was a good time, too.

I came back to this post (having not finished reading it) to see if it ended with ‘Priceless!’

What can I say? I’m a rebel.

RickQ put together a wonderful NYE for us. I planned last year, and arranged for us to have dinner and a hotel room for the night. This year, he wanted to do something as nice, but since we are on a budget, he got just the hotel room ($50 through Priceline) and made a hotel room picnic with all my favorites, including Cheetos, cheesecake, and a cream cheese and lox bagel for breakfast. He made me a CD of some favorite songs, too, and brought along a portable CD player so we could listen to it in the room. All in all, a wonderful surprise for about $70.
