What's The Most Expensive Meal You Ever Had (in a restaurant)

I always wanted to eat in a very upscale restaurant like New York City’s “21” or “Rainbow Room.”

I had one job interview in Washington DC and they took me to dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel. Looking at the menu the dinner probably cost (my portion) over $150.00. Of course I didn’t pay

I was wondering what is the most expensive meal you ever had in a restaurant?

I assume you mean the cost for one person’s meal. Paying the tab for a large gathering would be another category, right?

If you mean the former, then I believe the $80 breakfast my wife and I had (that’s more like $40 for each of us) at Brennan’s in New Orleans back in the mid-80’s (no telling what inflation has done to the prices since then) would have to be it. If not, the shock of that one still lingers in my mind as my most extravagant.

That I (or my family) ever paid for? Probably something like $80.

That my employer has paid for? Possibly in the $150 range, I would guess, but I didn’t see the bill.

Business dinners at a place like Morton’s can be quite expensive.
I took 5 people to dinner a few years ago at Morton’s in Chicago on State Street (their original location).
The bill with drinks and wine was about $780 or $130 per person.

It was a great experience and was also one of the first times that my moderate oneophilic skills came in handy.

And my sales weasel was able to get a PO the next day.

On a per person basis, probably one of our anniversary dinners in Vegas. They typically run in the $250-300 range for the two of us.

My husband and I once spent around $300 for the two of us to have dinner at Jean-George’s in New York. The thing that really amazed me was the dessert. Instead of choosing a dessert, we chose a theme…I think mine was caramel…and then they brought out several tiny caramel-based desserts. There was also a guy who rolled out a cart with big glass jars on it full of what looked like pastel ropes. These turned out to be ropes of different flavored marshmallow and the guy would snip off a few bits of each and arrange them on a plate. Then I think there was some ice cream. Then there was a dish of chocolates to go with our coffee. Then there was a tiny box of chocolates in a gift bag for us to take along. All in all, I think we had like sixteen varieties of dessert, it just started coming from everywhere!

We don’t usually spend like that, but once in a great while, my husband convinces me to let us have some fun.

I don’t know how much it cost (since I didn’t pay), but I once ate lunch on the balcony of La Sponda Restaurant at Le Sirenuse in Positano, Italy (near Capri.) It was a breathtaking experience, and not, I’d wager, cheap.

View from the balcony.

If that wasn’t the most expensive meal I ever had, I ate it sometime that week – a whilrwind tour of the Mediterranean coast and a lot of five-star dining.

I ate at a place in St. Petersburg called “The Lucky Shot” that probably cost in the neighborhood of $200 without alcohol. And there was alcohol.

£398 for dinner for two at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons. At the exchange rate at the time, close on $400 each. It was on expenses.

Just over $500 for my wife and I (together, not apiece) at the now closed Ambria in Chicago. Like many folks, this was on an expense account.

I doubt I’ve gone over $50. The most expensive was at a restaurant in Toronto with the cheapest entree $25 (Canadian). I also had an appetizer and dessert, and several glasses of wine. It was part of a group and the total bill staggered the college VP of finance, who had offered to put it on his college credit card.

(I will say that the best meal I ever had in a restaurant wasn’t the most expensive – a $20 three-course Japanese dinner in San Francisco).

Yes, I was thinking in lines of per person, not a large gathering. Like a meal for you and a spouse or a family type thing

I’ve eaten at the Parker House restaurant in Boston on a few occasions (it always seems to be changing owners, so there’s always a different name in front of that). It’s probably the most expensive restaurant that I’ve been to, but I don’t think it exceeded $80 apiece any of those times.

My wife and I ate at a snooty place in Scottsdale. The entrees were $60 a piece, plus you had to pay extra for bread and salad (I didn’t even ask about alcohol).

The portions were so small, I couldn’t wait to get home and eat a peanut butter sandwich. :frowning:

Never again.

Hubby’s boss took us to Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at Claridges once which I suspect would be the most expensive meal I’ve eaten. Although I really do like good, well prepared food I do not like froofy food and sadly I was unable to identify most of the items on the menu.

For several special occasions I’ve spent in the $300-400 range. I’d be happy to drop more than that for a really special restaurant in San Francisco, New York, Washington, Paris, etc. Like the thread that was posted recently about wines for a tasting course at an elite Parisian restaurant, but that would be more a one-off kind of thing. In Tampa $300-400 is pretty much the top end for two people, except maybe if you get into the expensive parts of the wine list at Bern’s. They have some bottles there that are 2 centuries old or more, iirc.

I had a couple of $500+ dinners on my honeymoon in France. Of the two, Paul Bocuse’s restaurant in Lyon was the most memorable. They had wines over $10,000 on the list.

The best meal we had was actually at the Bistrot De Sommelier in Paris. We only dropped about $150.

Without alcohol, it probably came to about $140 per person. We do that a couple times a year, I guess. I mean, I don’t know the exact time it was the most expensive, but it usually ends up around that when we go out “someplace nice.” If you add in the drinks, a good bit more (about $400-500 before tip, for two). It depends though, I’ve had lovely meals that ended up more like $350, and my favorite place (which, admittedly isn’t as good as the above mentioned, but who can eat like that every week!?) runs between $80-100 before tip, for two, depending on what we drink.

I’ve been there, too, and took the tour, but I don’t know what we paid. We sure as hell didn’t go crazy on the wine! I liked the Haunted-Mansion-like décor.

I paid $40 per meal when I took a girl out to eat. Most expensive blowjob I’ve ever had.
