So...how overworked are you?

I work at a company that is not in the healthiest condition in the world (are there any that are?). So - people are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship. I have now taken on the work of another employee who left a few weeks ago - and he had taken over the work of another employee. So, in theory, I am doing the work of three people. Not included in this is the fact that I am on the learning curve for this work I am taking over.

I’m not overworked in terms of hours - it’s just there are so many projects sitting in potentia, that I never know what to work on first, what should be a priority. I also am the overstressing type, so I have lost some sleep over stupid things to do with this.

So - how overworked are you?

Susan

I am not overworked based solely on my job tasks.
I am not overworked based solely on my school tasks.

Put the two together and I could really use a clone.

Would it be objectionable to suggest that if one views or posts to this thread is all that overworked?

I’ve got enough to do, but, by my own suggestion, I’m not being overworked.

“Would it be objectionable to suggest that if one views or posts to this thread is all that overworked?”

In cases like mine… yes. I come here to read and post when I need a break. If you check the time when I post it is generally in the wee hours and the only reason I ma here now id becasue I can’t upload changes to my commercial website.

Let’s see; I work in a very challenging field, taking care of disabled adults as well as doing a great deal of administrative work and by also going in to work to work on an emergency basis.

Then there’s the house, the four children, the pets, and a wife who is engaged pretty much full time in attaining multiple degrees.

Because I must be some kind of masochist I have also started a business dealing in vintage pens. If I am not at work or taking care of things at home I am working on business matters whether that is research, sales, acquisition, service, or working out agreements with distributors and suppliers.

I need a holiday but since that’s still a few weeks off I will go and revise some more html before I hit the sack.

Apparently, I’m overworked enough that I’ve lost the ability to spell.

Hmm. I would be far too overworked to post in this thread, but it now seems that HighlyIncompetentPartnerOrganization PLC have messed up their software licensing, which will leave me with a lot of spare time while they sort this out.

I cancelled a holiday to do this stuff today. Had to tell a friend “sorry, can’t meet you that day, I’m going to be insanely busy”. I am not pleased.

I consider myself overworked in terms of hours. My official hours are 9am to 5.30pm, but I rarely get out of the office until 7pm, and often much later. I am out of the house from at least 8am - 8pm every day.

However, there’s a bit of a presenteeism thing going on in my cash-strapped company - clearly the amount of posts I manage on the SDMB indicates that I might be creating empty space for myself during the day.

The company doesn’t really reward overwork, and has also backed down on vacation promises, etc., which is why I take it fairly easy while here. To be honest, I’m lucky to have a job, so I’m not going to complain much.

I work 3 days a week, 12.5+hours a day, so on the days I work, I can be overworked. I had two deliveries, one normal, one high-risk going on at the same time. Both on Pitocin and amnionic fluid ruptured, so I had to see them each every half hour. The high-risk was anxious, so I spent a lot of time with her. They both go into push mode at the same time, then normal mom’s baby takes a dip and now she’s high-risk, too. There are 3 emergency ceasarian sections going on meanwhile, so the air is humming with tension all throughout the floor. At 9 PM, everyone is delivered, babies are great, moms safe and sound and handed off the postpartum nurses and I went home and cried myself to sleep. I have 2 days off and I’m doing nothing but eating, sleeping and reading Tom Clancy novels when I’m not Doping.

I can honestly say I am not overworked. My philosophy of life includes not killing myself early worrying about being the top performer at my company. I do good work, and I do work overtime every week (about 4 hours total), but I don’t go out of my way to be here 12 hours a day like some people. Its just not worth it. To me there is more to life than work, it maybe ranks 5 or 6 on my list of important things.
