So how was your day at work?

Just wondering if anyone else had as good a day at work as I did. Here’s what I got to deal with:

I’m not paid enough to deal with this stuff.

I love being security, but sometimes I wonder why the youth of today are so angry

WTF? What exactly happened there? It was kind of hard to tell.

Warning: This is a video of people shouting and other stuff (dunno, didn’t finish it.) If you are at work: turn your sound down.

Aha, they have an article written up now.

Yeah, I should have put a warning. I didn’t realize it had sound, as my work computer doesn’t have speakers attached. That was footage from a cell phone someone in the crowd had. I wish I could share our CCTV footage.

Basically, we are in the midst of our spring carnival at the mall. A couple juvenile females decided this was the time to settle their respective differences by resorting to fisticuffs. They were promptly stopped, when one girl’s boyfriend decided it was in his best interest to begin to draw a firearm on the sheriff’s deputy. It didn’t go well for him.

The rest of the night devolved into numorous events like the one shown, until we got fed up with the whole thing and sent about 10,000 people on their merry way. Those that weren’t ready to leave yet were giving a bit of encouragement by being arrested for trespassing. It was fun.

My work day thus far has been 3.5 hours of writing my lesson for Tuesday, constructing a quiz while skimming 11 chapters (biography; not technical), and writing letters of reference. Later it will include another ~1.5 hours of lesson planning, half an hour of e-mailing, and an hour or so of grading and recording. Around 6.5 hours on a Sunday. So much for the anonymous student who rated me on MySpace as “lazy, lazy, lazy.”

Today actually went pretty well. I started out almost wishing the trip would be canceled. I thought we were going to be socked by bad weather (last night we got rainstorms with high waves and winds), but the morning was beautiful.

Instead we had a glorious day out on the water. We saw harbor porpoises, a variety of seals and sea lions, a gray whale, Dall’s porpoises, and best of all, a Laysan Albatross.

A number of people were seasick and a high school group was on board, so tips were low, but in all I had a really good time. Still don’t have my land legs back yet.

This morning, the last of a five-day trip to Cana and Cerro Pirre, we went out on the Boca de Cupe Trail. We had a few macaws, a Slaty-backed Forest-Falcon, an Ornate Hawk-Eagle, and some of the more common stuff, but it was fairly slow. And I just missed seeing a male Viridian Dacnis that some of the others saw.

Yesterday was a bit rough since we had to hike down from the tent camp in the cloud forest in pouring rain. But all in all a good trip. We flew back to Panama City at noon.

Thought you’d like to know that other than a short walk, a trip to the grocery, and half an hour for The Simpsons and laundry, I’m still grading and writing lesson plans.

On Friday, when you originally posted, I gave a deposition as an expert witness.

I set the Opposing Attorney on his ear at least 3 times.

Heh.

On Saturday I performed six weddings, one right after the other from 10am to 5pm. The couples all seemed happy afterwards, so I chalk it up as a day well spent.

Wow, six weddings. That’s pretty cool

Today I took my first final exam. This one was for Scottish Literature course. I felt pretty prepared, but my hand got so tired. I hope my grader can read my writing! I’m planning on spending the afternoon reviewing lecture notes for my next exam. I have a week, so I’m not too stressed.
