So I guess I am Voting for Kathy Barnette

Discussion of relevant California law from PolitiFact:

In Missouri it’s 25 feet from the polling place. Ordinarily that means the outside door that you enter to go vote. I’ve never seen a polling place where the voting area was accessible to the public. Even in a large school, they cordon off a specific hallway inside.

In theory, I’m opposed to strategic voting. Since that seems to be the thread theme:

I’m wondering if I should vote for the Democratic candidates for Senate and Governor — and Republican Carrie DelRosso for Lieutenant Governor. The idea would be to send the message — the GOP can become more successful by going normie. If Mastriano loses and DelRosso wins, that will be the interpretation.

Unfortunately, when it comes to my feeling good about this strategy, the Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate, Austin Davis, seems to be, just like me, a pro-charter-schools, OK-with-some-fracking, moderate. It’s hard to see me voting against a Democrat like that.

And I do have a problem with the anti-gay dog whistle in the middle here (regarding the flag). But on the core democracy issue of bowing to Trump’s stolen election line, she seems solid.

I suppose Mastriano will be working to get her on his side. We’ll see how far he gets,

That would never work.

It felt a little sleazy when I did it - I’m not about to vote for a Republican in November, so why should I have a say in their candidates?

But the stakes are just too damned high. As a matter of realpolitik, the Republicans are probably going to win statewide offices (except maybe Stacey Abrams, cross-my-fingers), and I’d rather have a Secretary of State who refused to commit outright voter fraud, than one who wholeheartedly buys the “stolen election” lies. Putting a hardcore Trumpy like Jody Hice in charge of Georgia elections is like having a middle-school sleepover party be chaperoned by Jeffery Epstein.
