She was very Lisa Loeb-y. Pretty much what you’d expect - in a good way.
A good friend of mine is an aspiring playwright. One of his works was given a read-thru at the Manhattan Theatre Club (I think that is the name - on 43rd St.) by some Broadway and Off-B’way actors, so it could be reviewed by a few different folks considering producing it…very cool.
Anyway, during the intermission I started talking with the woman who had been sitting behind me and I realized “oh, hey - you’re Lisa Loeb” and I basically said it at the same time and she said “yes, I’m Lisa.” We discussed the language used in the play - it uses words very consciously and there is a cadence to some exchanges, stuff a songwriter would get into…
She was nice and thoughtful and engaged. And, yes, pretty - cute glasses, hipster brown boots and a cool dress.
Haven’t heard as much from her lately - I really didn’t ask her about that. Frankly, since she was here to see the read-thru I didn’t think it was my place to bug her. I did ask her about guitars, geek that I am - and she mentioned she was still using Taylors…
She had a reality show called *#1 Single * a while ago, about her search for love in Manhattan. It coincided with the release of her Best of album. The reality show was very stagey but she comes across as pretty likable and intelligent.
She just released a CD version of her famous “purple tape” back in February, and she’s scheduled to release another CD of kids’ songs sometime this summer.
While a good snark sounds fine in a post, when I am standing in front of a very nice, pretty celebrity (maybe not super famous, but she has had her 15 minutes or so, certainly), I am not inclined to get all “I Love the '90’s” on her…
And, anyway, the glasses still look good. But I dig that look…
On a somewhat related note, about ten years ago I once met a girl who was a dead-ringer for Lisa Loeb at a wedding reception. She was an aspiring author but I think I threw her off a bit when I mentioned my favorite writer was Graham Greene and she didn’t know who he was. Aside from that awkward moment, the conversation was friendly but nothing further came from the meeting since she was the girlfriend of a co-worker.
Oh, well. I bet Lisa Loeb knows who Graham Greene is.
Dude - sorry, but you wouldn’t have. I have stood next to/engaged some very attractive, famous women in conversation, e.g., Lisa, Aimee Mann, the actress Theresa Russell (in Black Widow with Debra Winger - don’t know why she never got super-famous), and others. It just doesn’t happen that way - or if you force it, you look like a clueless moron…
Well, I don’t know your religious leanings, but I seem to remember from a couple episodes of her reality dating show I saw that she is looking for someone Jewish. Or at least was. I might be wrong though, just about the only thing from that show I KNOW I remember is that in one episode, for like ten seconds, she is wearing nothing on her bottom half but a thong and some boots.
Me, a Taylor snob? No way. I just think it’s cool because she’s so damned cute. Plus I like her music. Heck, I liked her on the Food Network with Dweezil. Or did I dream that?
No, it was real. I always wondered what happened that made them break up. Cause it seemed it was like a year from when that show ended and her dating show started.
