How does self defense work in this situation? I don’t see it explicitly mentioned in the USC cited above.
If a former President slapped someone and was returned the favor, could the non-President claim self defense? Or, does the President get to slap people knowing the worst that can happen is a state misdemeanor for him and a federal felony for anyone who responds in kind?

You’d have a pretty tough time slapping any of them.
That law was enacted in 1953, 73 years ago. They were at least 25 years old at the time in the House, 35 in the Senate. So they would be between 98-108 years old now. I doubt that any of them are still alive to be slapped.
So if you try it, you’re likely to be violating various laws regarding desecration of a corpse.

Wait, you’re posting from the year 2028? Do they still have the internet? Please look up the winning numbers for the California Super Lotto drawing for April 30, 2008, and send them to me by tomorrow night. My email is in my profile.

Here you go. Title 18 of the U.S. Code.
As for your chance of getting a job in a public school, you’ll have five years in a federal prison to fill out applications.

I was wondering when somebody would finally cite this law.
And, I think that anybody that assaults somebody can just about kiss a public school job goodbye. Something about having an undisciplined, violent lunatic around kids, or some such…
