Hello all,
I do a lot of motorcycle group rides and thought it might be a good idea to set up some kind of radio communications between my buddies and me. I also like to listen to my mp3 player on the road. It seems like I’d have to choose one or the other.
However, I want my cake and Edith too.
I did some searching around and found the Chatterbox, which has an FRS radio as well as auxiliary audio inputs. You can also hook up your cell phone to it! Unfortunately, it is cost prohibitive for most of us. Besides, we already own a few Motorola Talkabouts that can accept headsets.
I want to try and set up some kind of mixing box where I could have my mp3 player and Talkabout hooked up to the same headphone/mic headset. I will probably have to buy a Motorola headset and tear it apart to get the proper connector.
The only real requirement is that my mp3 player gets muted when I receive a transmission.
So far I’ve found a simple mixer but I haven’t found anything that will mute one input when the other one becomes active. I’m having trouble with google because I really don’t know what words to use in my search.
I have no idea if this is something easy to make or if I’ll be in over my head. I know how to solder and read schematics. I even know what “attenuate” means.
Any suggestions/links would be of great help. Thanks in advance!
