I haven’t bought many the past few years (have you seen how expensive they’ve gotten? And you get less than 10 cards? Sheesh!), but I went through a phase for several years where it was my major hobby (yes, I’m a girl, and yes, I’d get odd looks from other kids). I loved the K-Mart nearby me back then; they would have entire boxes of hockey cards for $5-10, since most people wanted basketball/football/baseball.
Most of my cards are from 91-92 to 96-97. I have some that are before or after that timeframe, though. I thought, “hmm, maybe I have some rookies that didn’t mean much when I got them, but would be really nice now…”
Just upon looking for semi-big names (i.e. I skimmed through them. Gimme a break, I have four huge binders full!), I came across:
3 or 4 Saku Koivu rookies
1 “future prospects” Eric Lindros (i.e. he wasn’t even signed yet)
3 Darren McCarty pre-rookies (he’s in a Wings jersey, but all the stats are for the AHL)(And most people probably wouldn’t care about McCarty, but I was happy to find these).
5 or so Sergei Fedorov rookies
3 Jaromir Jagr rookies
And all of them are in mint condition. Neato! I’m gonna go find a Beckett’s Hockey Monthly to see what these are going for. I wouldn’t sell them, but I’m curious like that.
