So I' watching 'Forensic Files'-Adolph Coors Kidnapping/Murder

In 1960, Adolph Coors III was shot in the back in a bungled kidnapping. The murderer was an escaped convict (for another murder). After a nationwide manhunt involving the top levels of the FBI, he was captured and convicted of murder and kidnapping.

In 1960, you’d expect this guy to get the death penalty, right? Such a high-profile case. And he’d murdered before. Nope, he got life in prison. He didn’t even get life without parole.

He was paroled after 18 years. Ages 32-50.* That’s stunning. I suppose the point of parole is that the prisoner is rehabilitated…but for such a high-profile case, that just seems very…progressive?

*He lived for another 30 years.

Well, it was Coors. So no great loss to society. :stuck_out_tongue:

Corbett was a very well behaved prisoner the second time around, and apparently really was rehabilitated. He refused a number of paid interview requests in his twilight years even though he was living in poverty, because he didn’t want to relive the experience.

ETA: He was actually paroled slightly earlier, but public outcry resulted in revocation before he was released.
