tr0psn4j: Spoilers for Seasons 7 & 8!
Faith is alive and well in Season Seven as well as Season Eight. IIRC, when Willow runs her juju on the Scythe and activates all the Potentials, it pretty much kills the whole spawning thing for good.

I don’t think it was ever answered in the show, but Joss said somewhere outside the show that the “slayer line” now goes through Faith. Buffy is still “a Slayer” through the loophole of coming back to life. but she’s not “the Slayer”. A new slayer would not be called unless faith died.
S7 spoiler (unrelated to whether Faith dies or not):
Of course, the events of the finale make that all moot.
Sorry guys, I think I’m going to skip the S7 spoilers. I’m watching the season 6 finale right now.
gonzoron - You are correct that the line goes through Faith. Joss has made that very clear over the years.
She is still Slayer, but the line now goes to Faith. No one new was called when Buffy died a second time.
EDIT: Didn’t see the last page of comments.
Damn, you’re catching up to me FAST. I just finished Episode 5 of Season 7.
What did you think of Season 6?
Yeah I get to watch one before work, one during lunch and a couple in the evening. Season 7 might take longer though, I’m going on various vacations over the next few weeks.
Season 6 was good though. It seems like everything just kind of caught up with everyone.
Pulling Buffy out of heaven sucked. It was an extremely selfish and stupid thing to do, and they knew it but they did it anyway. Willow’s downward spiral towards the Dark Side probably started there. I can’t say that I was surprised by any of that though. She really did change a lot and every time she dabbled in magic since the 4th season, I always wondered if it would change her. Willow’s desire for revenge and justice turning her evil was a great idea for the finale but I don’t like how they set it up with an addiction that she had barely kicked.
Xander still is an absolute idiot. This guy has never purposely done a useful thing. He managed to screw up his relationship with Anya (which was probably the only thing he had going for him). He did, however, save the world. I don’t want to give him too much credit though. But he saved the world only because it was his best friend trying to destroy it. Had it been anyone else, he would have been useless.
Poor Tara, she was one of my favorite characters. She really didn’t deserve to die. Especially the way she did. Although, it was nice to see someone smart enough to use an actual gun to go after the slayer.
Giles leaving the gang was a big deal but I’m not sure if he did the right thing or not. In the real world with real people, it would have been the right choice but in Sunnydale, they’re constantly fighting evil and saving the world. He should have found a different way to distance himself from the group. That way, Buffy can grow up but Giles can still easily come to her aid if she needed it. Also, his entrance at the end of Two to Go was BADASS!
Anya is still as awesome as ever!
Spike went through a lot and I never really understood Buffy’s reaction to any of it. We’ll see what happens in the next season.
Anya’s my favorite TV character ever. She’s funny as hell and she’s damned hawt.
As are all the female leads in Buffy, imho the #1 TV show ever, as ranked by female hotness.
Actually…
He said it was clear the line went through Faith (which makes sense since she was called when Kendra died, and no one was called when Buffy died a second time,) yet throughout season 7 Buffy kept saying “when I die one of you will be the new slayer!” and I kept wanting to yell at the screen,
“No! When you die nothing important will happen! We already know this because it happened!”
Just one of the many reasons season 7 sucked…they built up this mythos throughout the first 6.5 seasons and then decided to ignore the crap out of it.
Or Buffy doesn’t realize the line goes through Faith now. Just because we, as the audience, knows the truth, that doesn’t mean the characters do.
I don’t think he’s an idiot, just really insecure. He had a loveless upbringing and is just terrified of turning into what his parents were. He never had confidence in himself and feels he has to improve in order to become a good husband. His decision to call off the wedding is actually pretty mature in that context. Terrible timing, and he should have never proposed in the first place, but it was better for him to call it off than to rush into something he wasn’t prepared for. That would have ultimately been worse for Anya, which is the whole point of ‘‘Hell’s Bells.’’ Even though he might have been wrong, he did it because he didn’t want to hurt her.
Are you watching Angel? If not, why not? Because Angel is awesome.
But they should, since when Buffy died no one else was called. The Scooby Gang didn’t even look for the new slayer to replace Buffy.
In response to Lakai, but not a spoiler:
How do you search for a new slayer when you’re a bunch of poor kids and the new slayer could be called anywhere in the world? The Watcher’s Council had a lot of money and manpower to locate the new Slayer; the Scoobies don’t have that.
tr0psn4j, I’m not at all sure the Scoobies knew Buffy was in “heaven”. After all, their entire unearthly experience has been with Hell Dimensions. Buffy’s experience was the first, as far as I can recall, that the Jossverse even mentions a heaven exists. If I was in Willow’s position, I’d assume that my friend the Slayer, who we desperately need, is suffering eternal torment in some Hell Dimension, and if I could get her out, I probably would, too. Sure, from Buffy’s perspective, it certainly sucked, but even she knew her friends did it out of kindness for what they thought she was going through. They were wrong, of course, but their hearts were in the right place. Hence her angst and not telling them about heaven until the musical demon forced it out of her.
The whole point of Buffy’s bit in Once More… is that the Scoobies, when they brought her back, didn’t - and couldn’t - know she was in Heaven. And part of her issues was dealing with that, but refusing to lay it on them.
Here’s Something to Sing About (well, most of it - Spike’s bit is missing) on YT. Note the other Scoobies’ reactions - particularly Willow’s - when she gets to the reveal.
At the time, there was a theory that Dawn was created in S5 Ep1, after Dracula bit Buffy, that provided the sample for the monks, and then, yep Dawn appears at the end of the ep for the first time (and hadn’t been mentioned throughout that episode…)
I’m going to watch Angel after I finish Buffy.
I really don’t like Xander he’s an asshole to Giles and his absolute hatred for demons and vampires (even though they’ve helped them out time after time again).

I’m sure the Watcher’s Council probably locates Slayers using magic. From the flashbacks to when Buffy was called, it looked like the Watchers Council knew before Buffy did that she was a Slayer. If there is a spell that can locate Slayers it wouldn’t be too hard for Giles, Anya and Willow to find it. Giles might even know something about how the Watchers Council located Slayers from his time there.
Where are you guys in the seventh season now? Are you near the end?
I’ve followed this thread since the beginning, but I actually have a question as my wife and I are going through Buffy again(probably our 4th time).
We just are at the end of Season 2.
Why does Angelus want to end the world? Won’t that send him to hell with it?
Isn’t that addressed? Just to do it, or something along those lines? I specifically remember that Angel actually wanting to go through with it is what made Spike go to the Scoobies, because he liked his Happy Meals on Legs.
