So I'm Finally Watching Buffy... [Progressive unboxed spoilers]

Agreed, but consider it from Buffy’s perspective. Girl had the shittiest month ever.

Nah, that’d be the easy part. Girl’s bled over half of Sunnydale.

No, her mom left her a lot of money but most of it ended up going towards Buffy’s hospitalization and funeral.

Joyce’s hospitalization.

So, not squandered?

Bad choice of words I guess. But the Scoobies were buying clothes with the money too.

They were? I don’t remember that. Where was that said?

This is taken directly from a script off of a website.

“Luxuries like food and clothing”. That would imply the clothing was needed.

Furthermore, now that you pasted that bit of text, I remember that scene and her tone, which matches my understanding above. I always took it to mean the money got “wasted” on the day to day mundanities like milk, bread, and undergarments for Dawn and her guardians.

The whole point of the season is that life sucks.

Yeah, I can see that. They just talk about it like it was a decent sum of money but then spend it in a very short period of time.

Well, that’s the problem with the Buffyverse - the monsters don’t have any treasure. If B had been a D&D character she’s be rolling in dough.

But it’s the Buffyverse, she should be rolling in kitties. In theory at least…

What I never understood was why the Watcher’s Council didn’t supply an income. They HAD the money. You’d think they’d want the Slayer to not have to worry about things like mortgages and doctor bills and things.

Naah ! That’s why Slayers were teenage girls. Their parents were the ones stuck with the bill. You’ll notice that Watchers are paid. Giles made a point, when Buffy forced the Council to rehire him, about his backpay.

It might have started out decent, but a large lump sum of money can go very fast when there is no more income and you have to pay mortgage, old hospital and funeral bills, food, utilities, etc…

You see, that’s why America needs universal healthcare!

Basically, they are thoughtless pigs who know another Slayer will arise when the current one is killed. They really don’t seem to care for the Slayers at all.

Well…(spoiler for the 15th episode of the seventh season of Buffy)

We do find out that the first Watchers were just some guys who basically kidnapped a young girl and forced the essence of a demon into her. They really didn’t care for the girl at all, to them, she was just a vessel for this power that they needed to fight the demons with.
There’s a LOT of irony in this episode…a demon slayer’s power coming from a demon, and a show that is very heavy with the idea that a woman can be strong, powerful, and all that other jazz, has at it’s core a bunch of misogynistic old men who just want to boss around some little girl.

Because of The Slayer?

Bah, took too long editing.

Is Buffy still technically a slayer? As the slayer, she dies, Jamaican Girl becomes the slayer and when she dies, it’s Faith’s turn. Faith eventually gets locked up and I haven’t really heard anything about her since then. So I’m assuming she’s alive and hasn’t triggered another slayer spawn. But When Buffy dies again, do we get a third slayer somewhere in the world? Or is being in that heaven dimension still considered living?
