So I'm Finally Watching Buffy... [Progressive unboxed spoilers]

I’m not sure why Buffy didn’t just take Spike and Faith to fight Nathan Fillion. Bringing the baby slayers seemed a bit reckless.

Because that would make sense, as opposed to plot-sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

She was one, yes…over 1000 years ago!

Seeing as she lived over ten times as long as the average person does, even if they live to be ‘a ripe old age,’ I’m willing to forgive her for forgetting pretty much everything it means to be human. Yes, she has the physical memory of her former life, but no longer the emotional memory. It’s almost like a small child in that regard. They often act inappropriate during emotional times. They can sense everyone else is feeling sad, and they feel it too, but they don’t always know why and say things like,
“Why isn’t Grandpa here? Why doesn’t he just wake up?” at Grandpa’s own wake!

Angel and Spike were demon-spawn for a much shorter period of time, and even then, they were “less pure” and “more human” by demon standards. Vampires have always been considered the bottom-rung of the demon ladder, with things like what The Mayor turned into and Illyria being at the top. Anya was certainly not at the top, but at least one or two rungs up from vampires, so she had even less of a connection to humanity that Spike or Angel did, in addition to a lot more time spent as a demon.

So I finally finished Buffy! Season 7 was good up until episode the finale. Heck, even the finale wasn’t all that bad but I did have two problems with it.
Making every Potential in the world a slayer was pretty stupid. If they were going to do that, why even bother fighting that day? Knowing that all those Potentials at the battle were expendable really lessened the experience at the end.

Willow turning into a white witch for a while was kind of cool. How old was her new girlfriend supposed to be? I had assumed all the girls were under 18, but thinking about it now, they probably had to be 18 or older to leave their homes and seek out Buffy.

The casualties they sustained were either too much, or too little. I went into it thinking a lot of people were going to die. When Buffy got stabbed, I assumed she was dead and it didn’t really bother me. I figured the rest of the girls down there would soon follow. They were kind of outnumbered by just a little. I also assumed Principal was dead when he got stabbed.

So I was thinking either Dawn, Willow and Xander are the only ones to walk away from it, or everyone would survive.

It turns out, the only ones that died were Anya and Spike, my two favorite characters. :(
Is Season 8, the comic book any good? I looked at the first page or two without reading it and it looks like it takes place in space.

tr0psn4j, I reported your post only because olives still hasn’t finished season 7, and she might still think you’re behind her and inadvertently read some spoilers.

Edit: Regarding season 8:

If you saw something take place in space, that’s not the first issue at all…that’s actually only like two or three issues ago. There’s 35 issues, i think…maybe 36 by now?

tr0psn4j, that’s the second time today we’ve had to come in and add spoiler boxes to your posts [and the second time today Marley has muffed it and we’ve had to fix his fix :stuck_out_tongue: ] – would you please make more of an effort to do them yourself? If you don’t know how, it’s [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ] without the extra spaces.

Thanks,

Hmm, I thought open spoilers were okay. I’ll be more careful from now on. Thanks.

I don’t like the comic. I understand that with the new medium, they don’t need to worry about what can or cannot be done with TV special effects, and it theoretically opens up some new opportunities. Nevertheless, I think many of the plots have become too silly and cartoonish for my taste, and IMO, most of them would have never made it on TV even if they were to have the technical capability to do so.

This is olive’s thread, and is all about us Buffy fans vicariously reliving the first time we saw Buffy through olive’s eyes. The only open spoilers are for stuff olive has already seen. She posts to the thread as she makes progress, and according to her last update she’s only up to Conversations with Dead People.

Not that other firsttimers aren’t welcome; I’m totally into your reactions and opinions as well. But 15 pages in, we’re all pretty invested in not spoiling olive.

As for you reaction to the finale:Yeah, they were my two favorite characters as well. Even worse, how, exactly, did Anya kill an ubervamp? Buffy wasn’t strong enough to do it for half a season, now a diminutive human girl can kill them with little effort? Are you watching Angel, too?

Yes, I’m watching Angel. I don’t really care for it yet, though. I’m guessing I’ll eventually grow attached to the cast/characters. But while it’s almost exactly the same as Buffy, it’s missing the charm that Buffy The Vampire Slayer had. Maybe it was all the tiny little jokes that lightened up the dark times.

Opinions vary. I, for one, like it a lot. But yes, you do have to prepare yourself a bit more… out there than the TV series.

Angel question:

So, does Angel ever have sex in his T.V. show?

Hah! Yes.

Most assuredly. With multiple partners!

So, finished yet?

I finished Angel last week and wasn’t really impressed.

At least they brought back Spike.

Illyria would have been great if Buffy didn’t have Anya, who was practically the exact same character.

Wasn’t much for the ending. Should I assume they all died?
The ending of Angel was great. The whole show was about the fight against an inextricable evil, and it ends right at the beginning of an epic fight that implies the war is neverending and maybe even escalating.

And no, not everyone died. Angel and Spike survived, at least in Buffy S8.
Angel S5 spoiler:

Illyria isn’t obsessed with sex, though.

You mean Angel “season 6” (After the Fall/Aftermath). Buffy S8 is concurrent with Angel Season 5, so the events of the Angel finale hadn’t happened yet.

In After the Fall, everyone from the alley actually survived. (some a bit worse for wear).

But Twilight comes after all that, right?
