Another woman checking in. I also think that bald can be very attractive. The best looking men in the office where I work are the bald ones. But as others have said, it’s a matter of doing it right. The remaining hair needs to be keps short and neat or shaved. (And NO RAT TAILS!)
I forgot to mention, my brother’s 22 and has slowly been going bald since he was 18. He’s not “officially” bald yet, but he’s awfully thin on top. His hair is pretty long, past his shoulders. I think it looks just blecch. The Kim Mitchell look is not sexy, IMO. It’s creepy. That kind of look seems to only belong on a big guy with dirty hands who lives in a trailer and looks at you like he wants to eat you. Shiver.
Nobody has a problem with you if you drop 20k on a new car, even if your old one worked fine. They don’t call you shallow if you spend 10k redoing your yard. You can easily spend 5k replacing the carpets throughout your house even if the old ones are perfectly serviceable, and nobody casts judgements on you.
But spend a few bucks improving your personal appearance and suddenly you’re a shallow, vaccuous pig! Well, I say screw 'em - if it makes you feel better about yourself, it’s money well invested. I had some minor cosmetic surgery done after a decade of telling myself I would be “shallow” if I ever did something like that… now I wonder what the hell my problem was. I’m much happier with myself when I look in the mirror these days, and that’s priceless.
At the same time, I’m bald as a cue ball and don’t give a damn about it 
Dom, I commend you for your decision, and - so long as it’s okay with your wife - any time you need positive reinforcement, I volunteer to come over and run my hands along your naked scalp, crooning with delight.
Being bald used to make you look old. Now, with so many young guys shaving their heads, it doesn’t. Don’t give it a second thought.
Bald guys can sure be hotties.

Oops, Christopher Judge has hair now. Well, anyway, you get the idea. Ultimately, sexiness comes from inside the head. Whether or not the outside is well-thatched doesn’t make a whole lotta difference.
I’m not sure that’s an “apples to apples” comparison, but still think your point is valid. If you have the money, and it makes you feel better, sure, why not. Now if you’re neglecting essentials or your family or something that’s an entirely different matter.

I’m going bald too. (Perhaps at age 41 I have more of an excuse.) Until a few years ago I wore my hair quite long (I’ll see whether I can find a pic this evening), but I think I’m following my mother’s father in pattern and, if I did nothing, I would develop a shiny dome with a thick fringe. I’ve seen a few balding men with long hair, and, I agree, it just doesn’t look right. My hairstyles are getting shorter and shorter.
Last time I got a haircut, I wanted to get it very short, but the stylist urged me to ease into it. Maybe I will… maybe I won’t next time, and surprise all the folks at work.
