So I'm Shopping For Geiger Counters....

. . . -on eBay. . .

      • And that leads to a few questions:
  1. Some say they are “Geiger counters” while some say they are only “survey meters”. What is the difference between a Geiger counter proper and a survey meter?
  2. The probes: most of the counters/meters don’t come with probes. Some of the probes sold say that they are 600v, others say 900v. How can one tell which probe any given meter needs?
  3. Also I have seen that some probes say they are fitted with BNC connectors, what type of connector does the detector/meter usually have for the probe?
  4. Different units are in different states of function–some say tested, some say nonfunctional, others say untested. Is there any reason that they wouldn’t work after being stored for 40+ years? Are the parts that fail, commonly available?

I’m really sorry, I have no idea about geiger counters, but I gotta let you know that your thread title had me rolling… :stuck_out_tongue: I mean, how many times does the average person get to use that phrase in a lifetime?
