So is the 'Bride Wig Out' real or what?

That Kevin is one lucky fella.

It seems staged to me.

Anyone who presumes this is fake is luckier than you know: I have a sister who reacts EXACTLY like that under pressure. But EXACTLY. Just because you don’t know someone like that doesn’t make it fake. And bullshit on the “screams” fake: if it’s fake, it’s brilliantly subtle and should take a prize at Sundance. And WHY, exactly, would anyone put forth the effort it would take to stage such an elaborate fake video? What in hell would it gain you? THe laughing sister outside the door makes it very real; fakers would never have acted so naturally. The reactions when she starts cutting are very real.

I suppose there’s no way to ever know for sure, but I’d bet more than I could afford to lose that it’s real. To sum up my math: too much recognizably real about it; too few reasons to fake it. Occam says it’s real.

It seemed real to me but somebody commented that it could be viral marketing for the champagne. You can hear them talking about it on the complete version of the video (“what kind is this” “the good kind” etc).

I’ve heard of a few similar meltdowns at weddings attended by friends. The worst was when the bride was in a very early stage of pregnancy and had all the extra hormonal fuel behind it . She lost it because one of the antique earrings she was going to wear broke. I wasn’t present, but it was said to have been spectacular.

Wow, I can’t believe I remembered the earring story It’s been years!

Big vote for fake – probably viral marketing for the champagne. Let’s see if “the good stuff” shows up as some champagne’s tag line.

All the anecdotes about bridal meltdowns are entertaining but they have no bearing on whether this is fake. I wholeheartedly agree that brides can freak out in amazing ways, but that doesn’t mean this is a real video of such a breakdown.

Why I think it’s fake:

  1. The “bride” is a terrible actress. The other girls are very convincing, but from the moment the bride walks in, it looked like bad acting to me.

  2. The setup isn’t beleivable. Brides usually do not go to the hairstylist alone – a high maintenance crazy bitch like this would have insisted that her whole posse go with her to cater to her every need.
Plus, brides don’t get their hair done so that they show up with only an hour left to get dressed and walk down the aisle. They more typically get their hair done in the morning and they take a lot more than an hour to get in the dress and everything else.
And the hair style she came back with – even if the stylist really screwed it up with a crappy job – is very atypical. Brides more often choose an “up do” with the hair put up in a fancy way. But of course, that wouldn’t work so well with the “I’m going to cut it all off” reaction.
Plus, it doesn’t make sense that such a crazy woman with no self control would just leave the salon without insisting the hair be changed.

  3. And here’s a big one. Check it for yourself. At 4:15, as she’s yanking on her hair to cut it off, you can see the wig shift on her head. She pulls hard on a handful she’s about to cut, and you can see the whole wig slide a bit.
They’d need a wig to fake it, of course. Even if the actress were willing to cut her hair, they’d only get one take that way. With wigs, they could do it over to get it right.

Take it from someone with experience. The behavior of a bride during the 24 hours befor her wedding often is no indicator of what life with her would be like.

Looks fake to me.

They were all hot though. If real, I’d marry her just for the sex.

I’m a deeply shallow man.

I think its fake too. The bride even accidentally cracks a grin toward the beginning of her entrance.

It rings true to me. I’m not hearing that “actorly” tone of voice that I associate with fakes (such as was endemic with lonelygirl15). And perhaps I’ve just known too many overly-dramatic people, but the histrionics ring true.

I’m also not convinced by arguments that such a bride would have been accompanied to the hair saloon, or that she would have had a different hair style. Hair style can vary from wedding to wedding. What she had didn’t seem utterly outside the realm of taste to me. Sometimes people try to do slightly unusual things during their wedding, especially if they’re I’m-the-center-of-the-world types.

As for being accompanied to the saloon, maybe she had other friends or family with her there. As for doing the hair just before the wedding, maybe there was some kind of scheduling snafu. It would be consistent with her breakdown if things were already running late.

As for this:

I looked several times, and I’m not seeing this wig-movement. The camera shakes and zooms in at precisely that time, so it’s hard to tell. Keep in mind that the scalp normally slides a bit on the skull anyway.

I didn’t see that at all. The brides behavior, while completely irrational, did not seem fake at all. I don’t get the terrible actress stuff. Im leaning towards real at this point.

Was there a thread where people insisted that lonelygirl15 was real too? Bet they said the same things – that they’ve known girls just like that, it just rings sooo true, etc.

So now ringing true is evidence that it’s fake :).

No, it’s not. I’m just saying that all this talk about whether brides really act like that is beside the point. Do teenage girls really talk on and on about their wierd family life? Sure they do, but that didn’t mean lonelygirl15 was real.

I’m saying there are clues that it’s fake. Room to disagree? Sure. But I haven’t said one of the clues is that brides don’t ever freak out and do crazy things. To the contrary, I’ve said they do indeed do some crazy shit on the wedding day.

Yes, there is definitely room to disagree. I admit that I’m mostly going on intangible evidence like the tone of voice and so forth, plus the fact that the supposed evidence for fakery is, to me, easily explained away.

However, pointing out that lonelygirl15 was fake will only have traction with people who thought she was real at the beginning. Such people should learn to be skeptical of their own ability to spot fakes. People who knew lonelygirl15 was fake from the beginning, on the other hand, will take it as proof of how good they are at spotting fakes, making them more confident if their instinct is that this bride video is real.

(I didn’t hear about lonelygirl15 until after she was outed, so neither applies to me.)

Oh, and  back at ya.
Keeping things light.

I vote for fake. The start of screaming seemed to be timed once she was inside the room, and her eyes/nose didn’t look, and her voice didn’t sound, like you’d expect after what you’d presume was an extensive bout of crying.

Also, the bridesmaids made no effort to take the scissors out of her hand, and you’d expect that a hysterical hair-hating-bride-to-be would make more of an effort to render the camera unusable.

And the camera pans to occasionally look at the friend/sister making hee-hee eyes outside the bathroom doesn’t feel right.

Anyone noticed that the video is named “WIG out” and posted by “Wigout girl?”

Somebody did a cute little vid for film class, to further an acting career, or just for fun because they had some old bridesmaid dresses and a bad wig laying around, and they’re winking at you with the names.

I was waiting for someone to point this out. The wig (or is it?) was the only fishy thing for me.

The way she was acting, I wouldn’t have wanted to try to get the scissors away from her!
