Kurt Vonnegut has passed away. I was a huge fan of his work in high school, and have read most of his books. Last year, I read Man Without a Country, and found him as insightful as ever. It’s hard to imagine the world without him.
I just put Slaughterhouse Five in my reading queue. The world’s worse off without him.
That sucks. I was hoping I’d get the chance to see him speak sometime…think I’m gonna go reread Mother Night or Slaughterhouse Five now…
There aren’t many modern writers who have moved me, made me laugh, and infuriated me as much as Vonnegut. He was an original of whom it might be said that before they made him, they broke the mould.
Aw that sucks. He was one of my favorites.
Kurt Vonnegut was awesome. I saw him speak at Cornell and he exceeded my expectations, as did his fiction. He will be sorely missed.
He was the one who turned me onto reading fiction. Irreplaceable.
He’s off swapping tales with Billy Pilgrim and Kilgore Trout this very minute
Shit. Shit. Shit. Robert Anton Wilson and Kurt in the same year. Damn, damn, damn. From now on, I shall refer to the current VP as “Dead Eye Dick” in his honor.
Goodbye, hello, goodbye.
I saw him speak when I was in grad school, and he was just as crusty in person as I’d imagined him. Definitely a man with a solid set of opinions, and who wasn’t shy about expressing them.
Oh my god. I wasn’t expecting that. I don’t know why not. He was not a young man. But some people you think will always be there. Well, god bless you Mr. Vonnegut
He has come unstuck in time.
Sigh… the Times drew something of a comparison to Twain. There’s not many out there you could do that with and not seem trite.
RIP
In the spirit of a great writer:
Wow . . . just Wow. RIP.
I am very saddened to hear this.
I think I’ll go re-read one of his books.
God Bless You, Mr. Vonnegut.
He’ll always be here; I don’t remember when I didn’t love him and I always will.
Well Crap!,
This just ruined my day.
Welcome to the Monkey House is still so appropriate today. The legistrating of morallity always fails and is always being foisted upon people. Just look at the current hub bub over stem cell research, and attacks on Roe v. Wade, and banning gau marrage. etc, etc, etc,…
His voice will be sorely missed.
I’ve been expecting/dreading this for some time. He’s been a favorite of mine since I was in Jr High. And I just picked up “Man Without a Country” to re-read yesterday…
