There seems to be a pretty implied high body count in the battles to me. We see many instances of exploding ships, toppling walls, smashed tanks, et al where there would obviously be a collateral loss of life and the “GI Joe Rule” is not adhered to.
GI Joe Rule: Every instance of damage to a vehicle of structure must also show all occupants safely running or parachuting away. See also “Transformers Principle” and “Superfriends Law”.
Ahh…I just started on season 3, only a few episodes in.
Overall I’ve enjoyed how the series has been able to tread the line between classical mythical China and still appealing to western mainstream viewers. The only parts that have felt totally misplaced were the swamp hillbillies, and the hippie folk singer caravan.
Well, I’m sure China had hillbillies or ‘backward’ folk somewhere; substitute that ethnicity/group in your internal narrative. Having said that, I also found the rural swamp waterbenders odd additions. The sandbender earthbenders fit in more, but mostly because we saw little of them, and they looked like Fremen a bit.
…about halfway through Season 3 now. Azula is one of the most delightfully evil villains ever, on par with Alan Rickman’s Sherrif of Nottingham. All told, I think Toph is my favorite character, the perfect blend of humor, seriousness, and cool bending techniques.
