My advice: don’t. Or start charging consulting fees (seriously!).

Sad to see you go. Good luck in your new digs. Don’t be a stranger.

To follow up on White Lightning said, a good friend of mine was laid off from his chemical engineering job a couple of years ago, and then immediately rehired at twice the salary. Minus what he was now paying for independent health coverage, he was still ahead of the game.

They held on to him for two years at that inflated rate, but finally he got tired of rolling his eyes and left for a new consulting gig. This took him to a petroleum company, where his arrival triggered a power struggle between departments: the one that hired him for a project, and the one that recognized that some technicality regarding this new consulting position created the possibility that they could assume control of said project. Result was, the project fell into limbo for several months, during which he sat on his ass and browsed the web for six or seven hours a day at like ninety bucks an hour.

The point is, you may not have investigated all of your alternatives fully.

Anyway, you’ll be missed, certainly. Don’t stay away too long or the ice weasels will get you.

Don’t foget your towel.

Can beeblebrox cuss when leaving the SDMB?

Beeb, do like I’ve done a few times: Go to the library. Most libraries now have free Internet access with no restrictions (Hell, look at some threads librarians have posted about people looking at porn on library computers. :D), so you can literally walk in and start Doping. Well, you might have to sign in to reserve a spot and wait a bit if it’s busy, but it’s free.

And if the library carries Cecil’s books, so much the better.
