So long, gallbladder, it's been real..

Well, I never measured it, and now it’s bigger than it was originally because a doc used that same incision line for a different surgery a few years ago. It may not have been 9" though, and for some reason, I never get spam offering to enlarge my surgical scars. . .:stuck_out_tongue:

I think I’m looking at GB surgery in the near future. I’ve been having attacks that seem like biliary colic . . . several in the last couple of years, then increasing in the last couple of weeks. Sometimes I have to sleep sitting up, since it hurts so much lying down. Now I’m having a couple of good days, so continue procrastinating about seeing my doctor.

I had a badly botched appendectomy many years ago (the incision didn’t completely close for 2 years), so am really dreading another abdominal surgery. But obviously if the situation gets worse, I won’t have a choice.

panache: Do it. It probably won’t suck as bad as mine (95% get the easier proceadure) and it’s totally worth not having attacks anymore!

Ditto.

See the doctor sooner rather than later. Don’t make me reach through the internet and SMACK you!

Avoid fatty foods in the interim.

If the gallbladder is going south, you want it taken care of before you get really sick (infected, ruptured, whatever). It’s easier to remove, and you don’t want it to turn into an emergency situation where they have to slash-and-grab.

Most people manage to get the laparascopic surgery and while recovery isn’t a picnic, it’s not too bad. Compared with childbirth (old fashioned OR c-section) it was easier than either (I had a great c-section and awful vaginal delivery). The first 24 hours were rough due to the gas they use to blow up the abdomen. Then the next few days were uncomfortable more than anything.

Jimbo had to have the big scar surgery too, because his stone was too frikkin’ huge. The longer you wait, the bigger the stones get, I would guess.

I will second everything in this post. panache, DO NOT delay with a crappy gallbladder. If the little bastid ruptures, you’re facing the ICU, infections, peritonitis, huge medical bills, possible gangrene and even possible death.
Convinced yet?

Yes, I agree, there’s every reason to have it done sooner, and no reason to wait. I’ll call my doctor first thing in the morning.

And then you’ll check back in here and let us know you’ve done it, right? RIGHT??

Do it! The recovery sucks, but it doesn’t suck nearly as much as the idea of ongoing biliary colic!!!

Good boy! You don’t live very far from me I think (I’m in Columbus)
