Actually it was over a week or two ago, but I finally got my grades back and stuff.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It actually went by absurdly quickly, and despite the fact that I now have absolutely no money whatsoever, it was a pretty good year. I was a little unsure how long it would take me to get into the swing of things, (I’ve been out of high school for a few years, and I’m only now in college for the first time) but it was much easier to adapt than I expected, so that was nice.
My GPA for the year was a 3.63, which was lower than what I would have liked, but I’ll have to deal with it, I guess.
Now all I need is a job so I can earn the dollars for round #2.
Why did you wait a few years after high school to attend? Do you feel that gave you any significant advantages or disadvantages over your classmates, and how did that affect your outlook?
I went to college straight out of high school, and have often wished that I had worked for a few years first. Real life has given me the motivation I wish I had back then to have done better.
I waited for a variety of reasons. The official story is that I was just earning money and deciding what I wanted to do. The real story involves (of course) a woman, a possible alternate career, dinosaurs, and Batman.
As for advantages, since I spent the time away from school working in the “real world”, in some ways I feel like that experience prepared me more for college than high school did, just because I understand a little more about business and the politics of how any office runs, even a university department. You learn how to play the game a little better than you do in a high school.
I’m also pretty cynical. That doesn’t always hurt either. Not exactly a fairy tale moral though.
