So now atheists can't adopt!?! [circa 1970 - ed. title]

I hope it all works for you. It can be a very frustrating experience even when the stars are aligned. You may actually like the Unitarian Church - I almost fell out of my chair the first time Brainiac4 used the words “our church” or “our minister.” Not that he actually goes (or I go very often). I think there are a few Unitarian atheists on the Dope (I know Dinsdale is one).

What particular breed of sheep are you then? And how do you manage so much wanking with those clumsy hooves?

Hey, you know what would be funny? If they were all like Zambini57. No one believes in a deity, but they’re all out there pretending just as hard as they can to because everyone else is doing it. They’re going to church, christening their children, having ceremonial weddings, all that nonsense, and none of them believe it any more than any of you atheists.

Like a nine year old who hasn’t believed in Santa Claus since the second grade, but who pretends because they’re afraid that if they let on, the presents will stop. You’d have to laugh, how could you not?

Except that, if I understand what people are saying in this thread correctly, it appears adoption is something of a special case - because of the rights that the birth-parents to have specified the religion of the adoptive parents, and the fact that religious types are far more likely to bring unwanted babies to term.

Thus unless what is said here is in fact incorrect, this thead provides little evidence for discrimination against athiests. The “solution” for the inequality here is for more athiests to have unwanted babies and specify that only athiests may adopt 'em - but that isn’t a solution that would appeal to many.
