Most preppers are quite conservative leaning and now that Trump is POTUS their fondest political dreams have come about as true as they cold have hoped for.
So… you have $10,000 - $20,000 or more (some a lot more) in SHTF (shit hits the fan) end of civilization food stashes, gear and supplies and… everything’s coming up roses for you politically and culturally!
Time to start eating those freeze dried lasagna soup packets and buckets of dried potato flakes … or not?

So has gold. I’ve been wondering how the gold bugs are reacting to this - the smart ones are doubling down and buying as it gets cheaper, I suppose.
I’m not a survivalist, but when I imagine that mindset it is one that is very heavily invested in a bad outcome sooner rather than later. So I doubt that many of the serious ones are any less serious now than they were last year.
How many ways can the world end? Nuclear war (still unlikely in my view), accelerated global warming (likely, but longer term, I hope I’ll be dead), economic collapse due to one of those pulse thingies that kills all the electronics, hyperinflation, what else?
The more wacky ones claim that the market is rigged. Apparently precious metal prices are like helium–the only natural behavior is to go up.
Well, minorities are buying a lot of guns now. I don’t see anyone on the left mocking them. I also don’t see anyone anyone on the left trotting out their own paranoia about guns as they do with white gun buyers, which is rather odd.
Personally I think their fears are way overblown. But they should buy guns if they want to. They have every right to buy a gun, exactly the same rights as anyone.

I suggest you pass through the hyperbole and wander over to somewhere like the Zombie Squad forums, read threads like this one, and fight your own ignorance. They’re not looking forward to or actually preparing for TEOTWAWKI but by proper contingency planning they can cope when there is a disaster. How would you cope when the electricity fails in winter? Or there’s no water for an extended period?

I can’t believe it’s still a bit difficult to get .22LR. What the hell are these people trying to accomplish by hoarding this stuff?
In any case, they should be using and replacing their stores. In Switzerland, everyone is supposed to have a bomb shelter and keep it stocked with a 6 months supply of food. But they are also supposed to be updating it on a regular schedule.
I have a generator and a kerosene heater in my garage for exactly that eventuality. I carry a decent amount of canned food, several days worth. I have a case of water that I dig into when I go hiking.
These are all very reasonable precautions to take in case something happens and I am without the benefits of civilization for a few days, maybe even as much as a week. Building up for longer than that seems rather unlikely to get used, for that sort of thing, you really are banking on the fall of civilization.
I have met many preppers who have said the only thing they need is a gun, then they can just take the stuff that others have saved. While that may be useful for end of the world scenarios, where it would not be possible to stock up for forever, it is a little less useful for a week or so of loss of services, unless he decides to come over and murder me for my supplies.

Since we’re solidly into anecdote territory, all the prepper people I know (rough count - about 30something in two basic groups) are NOT THRILLED with Trump and with this election development (devolvement) to say the least, and have been continuing their prepping unabated, and in about half the cases, with more intensity.
There is more concern in the last few months over what they call “civil unrest,” which I believe is based on those articles describing minority arms and ammo purchases, and their concerns over Russia have been getting more and more specific in conversations and posts. The focus on basic food/water/shelter/gear has shifted more towards currency replacements (gold/silver/ammo/spices) and medical supplies (perhaps in a dim understanding that ACA is toast?)
It’s certainly been interesting to watch, that’s for sure.

I think the chance of a Nuke was has gone up a HUGE amount form Obama. Still low, but certainly more.
Chance of other disasters: earthquake, huge volcano, hurricane, flood, sunspots and even zombies remain about the same.
“coming to take our guns” has also remained the same= the same % as a zombie Apocalypse.
Certainly if one wants to avoid unreasonable discussion, you should go straight to a website dedicated to dealing with the supernatural events of fantasy movies.
