Maybe she just cracked under the pressure of something (real/perceived) and is sorting things out or something?

When my friend vanished and her friends called her house her mother would say she wasn’t home or on a vacation. She had a mental health breakdown and was in a hospital getting sorted out. To people who don’t know she has a condition she would have disapeared and to those who knew well it got around to all the friends that she was in the hospital and not missing. This happened every time she stopped her meds and was put in a hospital setting.
