Fort Washington, MD: Investigators say a 13-year-old and two 17-year-olds were at the intersection of Old Allentown Road and Airport Drive. Two of the four suspects in the Camry jumped out. One had what witnesses say was an assault rifle. The other suspect had a handgun.

Harrisburg, PA: A 16 year old student had just parked her car in the school lot when she was confronted by two young black males who threatened to shoot her if she didn’t give them her money and cell phone.

There’s no “now” about it. The current robbery rate in the United States is the lowest it has been in 40 years. Murder and rape are down too. People these days (at least in the U.S.) commit considerably less violent crimes than people 20-30 years ago. Things are getting better, not worse (at least crime wise). You’ll always be able to find a couple of horrible stories. But the fact is that Americans are safer from robbery now than they have been in 40 years.
