So snakes can hear?

I have already read that snakes can’t hear air borne sound. This article while not in a scientific journal claims some snakes can hear air borne sounds.

What’s the scientific consensus?

Snakes got ears, clam’s got legs.

But it appears snakes hear only a very narrow, very low frequency range.

And scientists didn’t know this 20 years back ? Something sounds fishy here.

(Shrug emoji) People don’t know something until they look into it. You don’t think the study is some sort of scam, do you?

1.) Publish study claiming snakes can hear.
2.) ???
3.) Profit!

What plausible step 2 is there?

So when you’re confronted with a pissed-off Gaboon viper, you should emit low growls instead of high-pitched screams?

Deep-voiced manly screams!

And the peasants are revolting!

Serfs are up!

You can say that again!

(Stolen from a Wizard of Id cartoon.)

Like Reb Brown?

So I stopped playing Minnie Riperton songs to drive away snakes and substituted Motorhead with Lemmy on vocals, but the damn legless reptiles just kept on writhing and grooving.
