Like the FBI or ATF doing a mob hit during a wedding or birthday party (played in slow motion and with emotional music), this was probably a case of right target, bad timing. The simplest answer is that no one is lying, and that their stories can overlap.

Anyway, as I said before, there is a lot going on here. Its still unclear exactly what happened. However, I can’t see the military being this stuborn if they didn’t think they had a pretty good case for it NOT being a wedding. On the other hand, we have several Iraqis pretty much stating that it WAS a wedding. So. I’m going to await developments here.

The dead included the cameraman, Yasser Shawkat Abdullah, hired to record the festivities, which ended Tuesday night before the planes struck.

The U.S. military says it is investigating the attack, which took place in the village of Mogr el-Deeb about five miles from the Syrian border, but that all evidence so far indicates the target was a safehouse for foreign fighters.

“There was no evidence of a wedding: no decorations, no musical instruments found, no large quantities of food or leftover servings one would expect from a wedding celebration,” Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said Saturday. “There may have been some kind of celebration. Bad people have celebrations, too.”

But video that APTN shot a day after the attack shows fragments of musical instruments, pots and pans and brightly colored beddings used for celebrations, scattered around the bombed out tent.

I am ashamed of and disgusted with my government. For two days they have been saying there was no evidence of a wedding, and now, once again, they are exposed as bald-faced liars. Our troops are in mortal danger every day they are under the command of such a cadre of lying bastards and their Washington puppet masters. There seems to be two possibilities

1. The military hit a smuggling camp for real, and the wedding by mistake, and just are refusing to admit anything about the wedding.

2. The military is lying through its teeth.

The wedding video is hours long, and it is said to be possible to identify people in the wedding as corpses after.

Conspiracy theory: remember when Bush was so deadset against allowing world courts to try US soldiers for war crimes? Anyone surprised now?

I went into Squadron Operations and called the Command Center at Seventh air Force and talked to the director, a brigadier general I had served with several years before. I told him what happened.

He said, “Damn, Cotton, don’t you know what’s going on? That village didn’t pay their taxes. That lieutenant colonel, a provincial commander, is teaching them a lesson.”

On returning from an interdiction mission several days later, we flew over the target area. The village had been totally destroyed. Nothing but a large, black, burned area remained. I’m sure when the FAC got a fast-mover (high-performance jet) on the target and destroyed the village the report read: Target 100 percent destroyed, body-count 1200 KBA (killed by air) confirmed.

I’m a grandfather now, and I can’t watch my grandchildren at play or carry them in my arms without thinking of that village in Vietnam.

I bring that up, because I do think this could be also happening behind the scenes in Iraq, that the “Intelligence” we got on the field is still as unreliable as the one Chalabi gave to us, and I do think now that some tribe leader found a way to get rid off of a rival tribe.

However, I still remain open to the possibility that there was also a terror camp next to the wedding.
