So the SDMB has added contextual in-text ads now?

Just want to make sure I didn’t get another virus from this place.

Really? Where are you seeing them? I’d be surprised if this was the case.

Almost every page. They’re light blue with a double underline.

I’m thinking malware. I saw this recently on a coworkers computer too (not here).

I just reported a post with them.

I don’t know what this means.

I also use Firefox with Adblock and never see ads.

Is there any reason why everyone doesn’t do this?

I have firefox and adblock, and am still getting the in-text ad pop ups. I even made sure everything was updated, and your post actually has firefox double underlined with an ad. Is that meta or what?

Took a quick screen cap. Here.

I think you’ve been hijacked by some software that rewrites HTML pages. Do a scan for malware.

Yikes!

Google “easyinline”. It’s a browser add-in of some kind. There are instructions on how to uninstall it (it’s on your side, not the board’s). If you’re using Firefox, apparently the last update may have turned this on for you.

Yeah it seems like something you accidentally installed as part of another installation. It happens sometimes, with software of all sorts of reputation levels. If you are not very careful and choose “custom options” or whatever during installation, you end up agreeing to install some 3rd party add-on that is often something like what you see there.

That’s not from The Straight Dope.

reran avg, spybot and malwarebytes again [it gets run monday mornings in addition to the autorun times] and nothing. Yontoo is nowhere to be found, poor lappy is squeeky clean.

Easy Inline Spyware Removal.

Google it. It’s malware. Malwarebytes should get rid of it.

And I doublechecked, it isn’t on my computer =( I rolled back to 2 weeks ago when I definitely didn’t have it popping up on SD and it is still on an occasional post on an occasional page. If it were on every tab, and more than one post per tab, I could see it being on my computer.

Nevertheless, have you run malwarebytes?

On review, I see you have. But I’m pretty sure it’s not coming from SDMB. Have you tried a different browser?

yup, chrome and ie

I ran Malwarebytes, SpyBot, SuperAntiSpyware, and AVG. None of them reported finding Yontoo/EasyInline.

I also checked Firefox, IE, and Chrome. The inline ads only appeared in Firefox.

But turning off the 1 Click Downloader (which came with some program I downloaded a few weeks ago) got it. It’s weird that it just started showing up yesterday though.

The people on here never cease to amuse me. You should Google “1 Click Downloader” and you’ll see it seems to be the shadiest fucking thing ever. Very first page of results is a thread titled “1Click Downloader Removal Guide” from a board called “Malware Experts.”

Good thing you checked to make sure it wasn’t from the Dope and not standard addware malware from the random stuff you’re downloading off the internet.

You’re right, I should have assumed this was malware I downloaded accidentally myself (which hasn’t happened in years) instead of from the SDMB (which started serving up malware so frequently that I broke down and started using AdBlock (which I have problems with morally)).
