So then, racism IS o.k.?

Sigh… you know I was really enjoying not hearing about the J-J think anymore.

First things first, for everyone who’s crying racism: There was no relevant racism to be found in the planning, execution, or aftermath of the “wardrobe malfunction (W.M.)”. Any discussion of racist meaning to be found in the incident is merely an example of other people bringing their own baggage to bear in the discussion.

In the long run, I doubt either entertainer will suffer any long-term repercussions good or bad from the incident. If Janet’s album sells well or poorly, it will be baecause of the quality of the music on it. As for JT’s not appearing at the awards, I’m perfectly happy to take at face value to explaination of a scheduling conflict. Why look for anything deeper?

I do think that it is somewhat curious that Jackson seemed to take all of the blame for the W.M. in the days following the superbowl. It seemed unfair, and not a little offensive to me that the press basically excoriated Jackson while giving JT a free pass, but I’m much more willing to blame that on the stupidity of mass media.

And by the by, Timberlake is a much better musician, songwriter, and performer than many people give him credit for. If he was such a fake the only way he could manage to stay in the spotlight would be to, oh I don’t know, marry some pop tart, and have his young marriage taped for the masses to see? NAh… that’s a stupid idea, it’s never work.
