I just can’t see myself shouting Batman! out the back door.
I’ve read some of the old “name my puppy” threads and nothing seems right.
A little about the puppy: He’s an 8-week old Black Lab and something cross. I got him from the Humane Society, and one of the workers said he and some littermates where found on Valentine’s day. She said a couple of the pups didn’t survive.
He’s mostly black with a white chest blaze and four little white paws. He’s a very bold little guy. I have two Great Danes, and when I brought him home Thursday he just charged right at these two giant dogs without any fear.
I’m really afraid this Batman! thing is going to stick. The SO is singing the Da dada Da dada theme! Help!
But don’t worry about this - whatever you name the dog won’t be the name you end up calling him. My wife and I argued for days about naming our kitten - we eventually decided on Cookie, though I insisted on the full name Cookie Monster. What happened was we called her Cookie, then The Cookster, then The Mookster, then Mookie, then Moogly, and now just Moo.
In a little while he’ll be down to Bats or Batty. No sweat.
My vet sends out her bills/notices to the pet’s name C/O the owners. Right now it’s Buddy and Luna, so our mailman must think we’re a wierd hippie/redneck couple. Batman on the other hand may raise an eyebrow at the post office.
Why should you have to shout “Batman!” out the back door? Just flip the switch on the Bat Signal for when he is outside, or use the Bat Phone for when he is indoors.
But he doesn’t have any bat thumbs! plus, I know bat puppies don’t answer the bat phone if they don’t feel like it. This is going to be one large bat problem.
Oh no! You make a very good point. I didn’t think what the name sounded like. He’s such a sweet little guy I’d hate for him to think I’m yelling at him.
At least the vet will know how to spell his name, right? And actually understand what it is. Try taking a cat named Halfie to the vet… “no, not Happy. Halfie. See, his real name is ‘Half and Half’ but that was too long, so…”
Argh! I am sorry Jjimm, but this is just horrible. Seriously Jimmy, how is the dog supposed to understand you are talking to him, when you always change the way you’re adressing him? I’ve got a dog myself, Jimbo and although my dog is 15 years old and deaf now, he used to be very language aware back in the days. I attribute that to always talking to him in a non-condescending matter and sticking with his name.
But enough of my rant, I think you’re getting the idea, Bob.
Hmmm, it must be my bad day: Three posts, two misunderstandings on my part which prompted a semi-rant and offended countless people offended. sigh
Ok, I missed the word “kitten”, probably because the OP was about a dog. I agree that it probably isn’t as bad for a cat as it is for a dog to call it by different names.
As for addressing jjimm differently through my rant, that wasn’t supposed to come across as an offense: I wanted to stress that it’s not a good idea to address someone (dog or man, doesn’t matter to me, I regard it as “not good” in both cases) with always changing names.
Certainly, I wanted it to be a bit irritating, but thought that jjimm would shrug it off and regard it as a humorous jab, the way it was intended. I did not mean for that to come across as highly insulting. If it did, my apologies (and yet another regret we don’t have an edit option).
P.S.: I would prefer it, if you didn’t call me “dork” in here - my suggestion would be to make a pit thread about me and to give me the link to it. Thanks in advance.
