So we’re moving to cheesehead land.

My husband of 31 years decided we should move to Wisconsin. He’s going to retire and wants to move closer to family. We met in Madison, Wisconsin and l have family in the area. I lived there for 25(5 with him) years and moved away for 25 years. We have lived all over the world. Now back we go.

You say this like it’s a bad thing. Madison’s certainly chilly in the winter, but the rest of the time it’s nice. Beautiful lakes, a culturally diverse downtown with a gazillion good restaurants, and outstanding scenery and state parks in the surrounding countryside.

Oh I agree, Love Madison. I was just saying it’s the alpha and omega.

We bought a eco friendly condo in New Glarus:)

Sounds like a new adventure. Good luck. Enjoy the cheese.

Aw, that’s a picture-perfect cute town. Plus a great brewery to boot! It’s certainly a place I would be happy retiring to. Good luck!

The perfect retirement spot to rekindle or begin your love of the Packers

Always a Packer fan no matter where we lived!

Outstanding! I grew up in Green Bay, and went to college in Madison. When I got my first job, coming out of school, it was in Chicago. “I guess I’ll go there for a couple of years.” That was 1989. :stuck_out_tongue: Despite living in Bears country, I’m absolutely still a Packer fan, and I know that I’ll likely end up back in Packerland at some point.

New Glarus, eh? Good beer there! And biking trails.

I like A LOT about Wisconsin. And cannot dispute the lure of being near family. But as a (near) lifelong Chicago(area)an, if I were to move, I don’t think it would be a single foot further north than I currently am! Unless you were able to spend Jan-Feb in warmer climes.

Yeah, right now it sounds foolish (this is from a fool living in Madison – are we ever sick of the cold!). But whenever spring gets here, it’ll be nice, and a summer spent at Farmer’s Markets and on the lakes or the UW Union Terrace with a beer and a brat… glorious.

Oh, speaking of beer, the New Glarus Brewery kicks out some of the finest I’ve ever tasted. When’s the last time you had a cask-conditioned Farmhouse Ale? Spotted Cow is wonderful (but not even their best…). They do great tastings and tours.

New Glarus is a cute little Swiss town with all I’d need: good coffee and library, and an amazing little bakery. I have a friend who makes that commute… on bike (26 miles – 2 hrs by bike; by car you’ll be about half an hour from the Union Terrace/Capitol Square).

Spotted Cow!
Need I say more?

I Live in Theresa, just North of Slinger. Kettle Moraine area and beautiful as well.
