You waltz for a living?

Social worker in a residential drug treatment facility (for adults).

That actually does sound fun and so interesting!

A friend of mine works for a bankruptcy trustee. When a business declares bankruptcy, the court appoints them as trustee and they take over either running the business or winding it down for liquidation. She’s always having to straighten out books and records that are a mess, while also learning how to run various businesses such as apartment complexes or motels. She’s also been called to testify in court cases where the business owners have been involved in shady dealings.

Whenever it’s time to move on from my current job, I thought trying to do something like that would be quite fun.

It is fun for me. I certainly know some people who think I’m crazy for enjoying it. It gives me a chuckle when they express that opinion.

I try to do as little as possible.

I didn’t tell people what I did while I was doing it. Why would I start now?

When I saw his description I figured EOD on obsolete munitions. Then I saw “collections” and that worried me. One boom is bad enough-but a collection…

“Collections” as in “ours” and “theirs,” of all ages and sizes, current and older.

Many are antiques that still have a “bite.”

Joined the Canadian Reserves right after high school, and volunteered to go on loan to the reg force when I took a gap year from university, and spent two years as a telephone linesman with the Signal Corps. Decided I still didn’t know what I wanted out of University and took a temporary job with the Canadian government that lasted 42 years.

Started out as a clerk, but got transferred to finance when my division was relocated to a Minister’s riding (I knew the area, didn’t hunt or fish, so had little desire to live there), which I hated until I discovered that I was good at the work and liked it. I was a Finance Officer for most of my time, heavily involved in the back end of accounting, with a lot of work on system development. I stayed on for a number of years after I could have taken full retirement because the government was moving from cash accounting to accrual accounting and I was heavily involved developing the new accounting systems and the new chart of accounts, and with interdepartmental working groups managing the change, and wanted to see it all through to the end.

I now spend time building models of (mostly) military vehicles, and playing board, card, and D&D games with a gaming group coming up on its 50th anniversary and of which I am the ‘President for Life (or until next Coup Phase)’.

I spent 26 years working for a medical device manufacturer. I installed/maintained/repaired/removed the equipment in their clean rooms.

Since retirement, I’m working 18 hrs/week at the local hardware store. Best job I ever had. I enjoy helping customers, and unloading the truck full of merchandise twice a week is keeping me in shape.

Yeah, part time job in the hardware store is high on my list of retirement gigs. I love hardware stores.

Sounds like a great fit.

Likewise, I’m a Jack of all trades. Some shit I really know though. Got the scars to prove it.
