What is your profession?

Inspired by a discussion started by Qadgop the Mercotan (MD), what is your profession, job, career?

I’ll start. I work in a hospital pharmacy, packaging drugs for use within a McKesson Automation robot. The robot picks drugs for patient use, rather than the pharmacy techs having to do so.

I read and write emails and go to meetings. Somehow, this makes software.

I’m a paramedic. I work 24-hour shifts in a good sized city and average about 11-12 calls per shift.

Full-time college student.

Sales of two-way radio equipment and CCTV systems.

Actuary

You must work at my husband’s company!

I am a mom, teach ceramics and am a creative memories consultant.

I’m the GM of a local (not a chain) restaurant. I’ve found that being a “general” manager means that I don’t manage anything “specific”, I’m just everyone else’s b**ch.
But the pay’s good!

I’m a retail buyer for a large museum.

I am a stay at home mom - which means I am a cop, a baker, a taxi driver, a teacher, a chef, a life guard, a clothing consultant, a maid, a seamstress, a personal groomer, a nurse, and all the other things a sahm includes.

I’m a full time student looking for a part time job. I also intern (non paying, of course) at my city’s Department of Cultural Affairs doing PR and general editor stuff for two of the larger events the Department puts on every year.

HVAC/Electrical Contractor.

In the past six months or so, I have (in decreasing order of frequency)…

  • Filled out paperwork;

  • Attended meetings;

  • Repaired communications equipment (encryptors and optical network components);

  • Pulled wires under the floor;

  • Carried boxes too heavy for the techs twenty years my junior;

  • Solved math problems for the programmers going to night school;

  • Picked up carryout for lunch (I knew the owner, so I got a discount).

In other words, my profession is… engineering.

PS: My career goal is homeless musician – when I retire!

I’m a book editor and publishing executive, and have promoted and worked over manuscripts with the likes of Ed McBain, James Ellroy, Joe R. Lansdale, Ross Thomas, Ruth Rendell, K.C. Constantine, Peter Dickinson, Eric Ambler, and Donald E. Westlake, between 1985 and 2001.

At the moment, I’m a produce buyer and organic hippie communist grocer for the Park Slope Food Coop.

I owe my recent meteoric rise to the Bush Economic Boom.

I’m a technical writer for a biomedical research institution. If you prefer you may use my alternative job title, English Major Adrift.

I’m a reference librarian, and I start my first professional librarian job (post-master’s) in less than two weeks.

I’m scared to death and excited as hell. :slight_smile:

I am also a paramedic, but have moved from field work to answering 911 calls. I am a part-time student working on prerequisites for nursing school.

Retired, but formerly in the brokerage industry.

I a Chef Concierge!

That does not mean that I cook and act as a concierge.

I am friendly, solve proublems and give excellent advice.
