I don’t think it is a flameout. I think it is typical pointy haired boss thinking. Anything he does not have experience with is relatively simple. This board has minor issues and computers are cheap so where does all the money go.
Let me clarify: I don’t think he’s flaming out in the sense of Suicide by Mod or anything. I think he’s baiting people to get some flaming going. And I think he’s not being very subtle in going about it, as the clumsy swipes against people illustrate.
Hi, I’ll bump this. Because what I consider a troll, and what a lot of other people in this thread are yelling about are two different things.
Also, since you’ve been answering kindly, why Zambini57?
Where there that many Zambini’s already taken?
that’s what she said?
Remember Alan Thicke is riding one of them
Ah, so it’s all a big conspiracy. Which we’re willing to participate in because…
umm…
Oh yeah! I remember. Because we’re paying $15 for a shitty product we don’t even like. We pay anyway because Cecil sends mobsters to make us an offer we can’t refuse, and the mob’s lawyers have us sign confidentiality agreements to keep us from telling people about the raw deal we’re getting.
Well, I don’t know if I’m part of The Conspiracy or not, but I for one have no interest in examining the Reader’s accounting books. Then again, I criticize the mods plenty, so maybe I’m not one of the accused. Hard to tell when the plaintiff is shooting slobber around the room without actually drooling out a word’s worth of substance.
If the Board is so awful, and you don’t “need” it, why did you pay $15 even though you know that it’s not to your liking? I don’t like McDonald’s hamburgers, but I don’t give them $5 and go “Here! Improve your business!”, I simply refuse to patronize them on the basis that they don’t offer a product worth my $5.
That’s a nice hat, BTW. Is that tinfoil?
In Minnesota? Holy shit! How far is your commute?
At $3 a gallon gas that is only 2.5 gallons for charter members. At 25 MPG that is like a 32 mile each way commute not an outrageous commute.
<NOT A MODERATOR COMMENT>
Zambini, have you ever heard of an ad hominem attack?
Let me lay it out for you.
(from here)
Now let’s look at some stellar features of your previous post in this thread:
If this was in Great Debates, you would have been flamed out of the room by now.
Too bad that you have to resort to insulting other posters to make your points. I can’t wait to see what you say about me.
I have to admit it has it’s pretty awful moments. The only one I frequent that is even remotely close is, oddly enough, my credit union’s website. Try having it freeze when you’re wishing a spammer into the cornfield. That said, it’s definitely gotten better since pay-to-post. It used to frequently - quite frequently - very frequently - extremely frequently - hang; now it tends to work well or not work at all. I think that’s an improvement.
But it’s worth it to me. Even were I not a mod, I’d still be a Charter Member. The people, the conversations, the education that I get here is not something I could replace with any other website. When I can’t get on, sure, I cuss, I moan and complain, but I always come back.
For some reason, for such as the OP, that passes all understanding. Too bad.
The food is terrible and the portions are way too small!
Damn it gazpacho!! You are incredible with your precision estimating. It’s 34 miles each way.
Zambini57, do you make it a habit to ask for what you want and then immediately, before the person has time to respond, swear at them, insult their intelligence, and generally act abrasive? If so, how’s that working out for you?
SCENE: Starbuck’s
DRAMATIS PERSONAE: Zambini57 and a BARISTA
Curtain rises. Zambini57 enters the Starbuck’s and approaches the counter.
Barista: Welcome to Starbuck’s! What can I get for you?
Zambini57: I’d like a half-double decaffeinated half-caf with a twist of lemon, you fucking ignorant redneck douchebag turd-fondling piece of shit. I wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire, you anatomically incorrect, puppy strangling, mildew-gulping bit of genital discharge.
Barista: Get out.
Zambini57: I bet if I’d been coming in here every day for five years you’d get me my goddamn coffee, you shriveled little gutterslut! You puke-snorting, frog-fucking, buck-toothed cracker!
Zambini57 is ejected from the store.
SCENE: Outside on the sidewalk. Zambini57 kicks a rock dejectedly and speaks to himself.
Zambini57: Their coffee costs too much anyway. What do they do with my $3.37 after I buy a latte? They have a responsibility to tell me every single detail of their finances. Yea, verily, I am grievous wronged.
Frankly, dude, even if the Reader had been inclined to tell you the details of their finances, your total assholery in this thread would likely have stopped them. If you want something from someone, this is not the way to get it.
Let us know what it’s like when you’re out there on the sidewalk. Wait, no, on second thought, don’t.
Damnit jackelope, you can’t write a post like that… there’s a writer’s strike on!
Snaps for the L.A. Story reference, jackalope!
Zambini57, I have no gripe with your griping.
I do wonder, though.
Does putting extra paragraphs in posts affect board response time?
Does the blank space slow down my computer?
Is there extra bandwidth usage involved that enhances revenue for the board?
I do not wish to alienate you, but
?

Man, that Steve Martin had a mouth on him, didn’t he?
Very good stuff, jackelope.
Yes, I know his character stopped at the drink order, and left off the invective.
I’m on a roll. Based on this $45K a year should be dead on. This post in my cite Zambini57.
Go right ahead with your bitching[/pissing] and moaning. Feel better now? Soon enough, you’ll decide to either stay or go. Whatever your choice, best wishes to you. :o
Damn it, jackelope, for $15 I ought to be given the correct insult! It is:
“I wouldn’t piss on his ass if his piles were on fire.”
I can’t believe you didn’t research your message. You’d think with all the money the board could do fact checking, but NOOOOO.
I’m confused about the estimates on what the board makes. There are 71,675 members. This, I believe, are the number of paying members. (Since non-paying participants are guests)
If, for argument’s sake we say 1/2 of those members are charter members, the amount paid per year is $536,845.75 + $268,422.87= $805,268.62.
Am I doing something wrong?
If all members paid the full amount of $14.98, the total would be $1,073,691.50
I’m pretty sure fewer than half are charter members, so the amount would be higher.
Yes, you’re doing something wrong.
That 71,675 figure you quote includes all members since the day this board was started. It includes Charter Members, members, guests, lapsed (not an actual category, but included for the sake of the dearly departed), registered but never activated, and banned categories.
That being said, I’m not privy to the actual number of paying members.
