So, what *is* this "bullet-looking missile thing" from Lockheed?

See subject. Moseying along Colo. 128.

Bullet-looking missile thing” seems to be its new accepted name.

Unless someone from Ball or Lockheed is checking this forum, and has permission to talk about it, I’m not sure how anyone would know the answer. It’s apparently some kind of competitive proprietary sensor… what more do you need to know? Notice I didn’t say “I could tell you, but I would have to kill you”. Too easy.

I’d say it may be THE silver bullet we are always hearing about.

Were any of the guys North Korean?

I have no actual knowledge of this project, but can make good guesses.

Based on the news article and the Lockheed statements, they’re testing a sensor that’s embedded in the front of a missile. It’s likely an X-band phased-array radar. (The nose-cone would be transparent in that band.) It’s not, for example, an IR or optical sensor.

They’re pointing it at the town to test detection performance in a cluttered environment. Also likely, they have a repeater transmitter set up in the town to provide target-like returns. No one noticed it because it’d just be a couple small horns mounted on a roof somewhere.

It would take a lot of legwork, but all RF transmissions in the US have to have approval of the FCC. Someone could check what permits were granted in that area.

Not sure what the dingus is, but I like the Harbor Freight engine hoist it’s mounted on. Glad to see our defense contractors are into saving our tax dollars…
