So what’s the worst song on the best album by your favorite band?

I used Oingo Boingo in the other thread, I’ll isr them here, too:

Favourite album - hard to choose. Either **Good For Your Soul **or Only a Lad.

Least favourite song…

From GFYS - Cry of the Vatos. Just weak (relatively speaking).
From OaL - Capitalism. I don’t SKIP the song when it comes up or anything, but it’s probably my least favourite single track by them.

Heh. I selected that as my worst album in the other thread: if everything were like the sweet pop at the beginning of side 2, it would be up there in the middle. But I agree that APB is the worst track.

R.E.M.
Lifes Rich Pageant
“What If We Give It Away?”

Billy Joel’s arguably best album “An Innocent Man.” Worst song: “Leave A Tender Moment Alone.” Thank God for CDs so I can skip that track.

Billy Joel’s arguably other best album is “The Stranger.” Worst song: tough pick, but probably “Everybody Has A Dream.”

The Police, on Synchronicity: Mother. Who let Andy Summers write (and sing!) this piece of crap?

R.E.M., Lifes Rich Pageant; Just a Touch

Led Zeppelin, IV; Four Sticks

Beatles, Revolver; Dr. Robert

Beach Boys, Pet Sounds; Caroline, No

Jethro Tull, Aqualung; Up to Me

Radiohead, OK Computer; Airbag

If that were my favorite band those would be my choices too. As a matter of fact once I saw one of those juke boxes that held thousands of digital songs on hundreds of albums and one of those is LZ4. I’m like “I bet they have every song except Four Sticks.” Yup, I was right.

King Crimson, Starless and Bible Black, We’ll Let You Know. Tough call.
Frank Zappa, Hot Rats, It Must Be A Camel.
ELP, Brain Salad Surgery, Benny the Bouncer (that one’s easy)
Mike keneally, Wooden Smoke, 5 Legs

Whoa! Have to disagree. The “Golden Slumbers” / “Carry That Weight” combination–hell, the whole second side (yes, I’m dating myself by referring to “sides”–is fantastic.

::sniff!:: Once there was a way…to get back home…

I love Abbey Road. It’s my son’s favorite album. I love everything on it, but for the worst–you wouldn’t pick a throwaway like “Her Majesty”?

All right, I’ll try…on The Beatles’ Revolver, I’d pick “I Want To Tell You.” And I really like that song. But go ahead, I defy you, pick another “worst” on that album. You know, this one’s so good, I’m going to go out on a limb and say I consider this album a classic. Controversial, I know.

The Who
Quadrophenia
I’ve Had Enough - It’s not really a bad song, but it doesn’t have anywhere near the power of the rest of the album.

You must have the U.S. version, which omits ** Dr. Robert **.

No, I love “Dr. Robert.” I consider it one of the better songs on the album.

[singing loudly]“You’re a new and better man!”[/singing loudly]

Extremely tough call on the Crimso. For the FZ, I would have picked “Gumbo Variations.”

I believe that was Brian’s favorite song from that fantastic record.

I was torn between the two. I just think 'Camel" could have been fleshed out some more. I was surprised at your choice of Lizard as your favorite Crimson, btw, but to each their own.

Don’t really have a favorite album but I always wondered why Prince’s masterpiece “Purple Rain” included such dreck as “Darling Nikki.”

Yeah, this song’s a real skunk in a bed of roses. Finally, a song only Freud could love! I’m glad you explained this is called singing. I was thought it was someone dragging sandpaper over the microphone! - Jinx

Easy choice for me, and I love everything Crimson ever did. It certainly seems to be a love it or hate it album (aside to non-fans: even the guy who sings on it is firmly in the “hate it” camp), but it’s pretty much number one on my desert island discs list.

HEATHEN! Without My Friend of Misery, Jason wouldn’t have had a bass line to use for his live bass solos.

And it’s not the worst song on that album. That honor goes to either “Don’t Tread on Me,” which is crap, or “The Struggle Within,” which is more crap.

The worst song on “Master of Puppets,” relatively speaking, is “The Thing That Should Not Be,” which just shows you how that album has no bad tunes.
