This has happened at my nearest Target store, especially in the non-grocery goods. Not much depth or breadth of stock and what is there is spread pretty thin.
I did not get any poultry in Brussels, Belgium, today. They became scarce two weeks ago, on Thursday there were only a few ugly, cheap chickens, we passed. Today there were no chickens at all, nor ducks, quayles, nothing! No whole birds, no breasts, no thighs. We have been to Carrefour and to Delhaize, two big retailers here. The biggest, in fact.
Fruits and vegetables aisles were also almost empty around 11.00, we thought we were in Britain, and the yoghurt/kefir/burrata/mozarella fridge was only one third full with many items missing completely. Very bizarre.
Our latest shortage we are experiencing personally is manual labor. Six months ago we started working with a contractor to get my stepdaughter’s house (which we own and she rents from us) resided. The siding was ordered late spring/early summer and took a couple months to arrive. But for the last few months it has been a matter of the contractor finding a crew to do the work.
Two weeks ago they had a construction dumpster dropped off in front of her house, and last week they delivered the siding, which is now sitting in her front yard. But still no work crew.
No caffeine-free Diet Coke to be had
for any amount of cash
I hadn’t really thought about it until now, but yeah. I’m a mod for our local Nextdoor and have noticed that the job seeking handyman and yard worker posts have pretty much disappeared, but people looking for workers are posting more.
I used to see a couple of posts a month from housekeepers, but I haven’t seen any for over a year. Our housekeeper has told me that she isn’t taking any more clients because her schedule is full.
Keystone Banana, a cannabis strain Cresco has grown as a cross btwn gelato and skittles. I wish I’d bought more flower and carts when they were available.

Sausage. Went to the grocery store yesterday to get some Hillshire Farm smoked sausage or kielbasa to cook up with some cabbage and faced a wall of nearly empty shelves. There were a couple packages of store brand chorizo and one pack of store brand andouille – everything else was store brand or unfamiliar brand Turkey sausage – no actual familiar name brand sausage in sight.
My desk finally arrived Monday! I suspect now that the delay was related to finding a shipper (in this case, a couple of guys with a Suburban and a trailer) rather than a supply shortage.
Is Clorox Anywhere still being made? I haven’t seen it on shelves in ages.
I stocked up this past summer when it was on sale. I’ve got 3 tubes split and vacuum sealed in the freezer. I’m the only one that eats it here. I’ve seen it in the stores and it’s been sale priced since then. Multiple brands, multiple stores.
I’ve noticed the car dealership I drive past daily is starting to fill the used car lot back in. The new side of the lot is still sparse.
Just got off the phone from the car shop. The tires I ordered to put on my work beater next week are unavailable until some unknown date. Switch to another comparable or start the search over.
My local gas station / mini mart has had bratwurst on sale $1.99/# for the past month. I’ve got a dozen plus in the freezer. In August they had 5oz steaks 3/$5. I put about 50 of them in the freezer then.
Rumor has it that my employer is sitting on a 6 month supply of ingredients for making jalapeno poppers. So as long as there are people to make and ship them there will be poppers available.
Just got back from local Wal-Mart. Today’s findings:
Zero refrigerated Ranch dip, except for one lone off-brand tub with an enormous dent in it. (Plenty of French Onion dip, though. Go figure.)
Speaking of dip, the sour cream & onion potato chips are a crapshoot. Last time I was there, I wanted the crispy, more delicate kind … all they had were the sturdy “ruffles” for dipping.
Fast forward, I get a craving for chips with dip … now all they have is the delicate kettle cooked chips, no wavy ruffles.
Got the last half-package of Land O’Lakes butter available. Now there is zero Land O’Lakes brand butter in any size package, regardless of salt/no salt.
(Plenty of store-brand butter, and quite a few specialty brands. IOW the cheap shit, and the expensive stuff. No trustworthy middle-of-the-road butter.)
Thus concludeth today’s report from western Michigan.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled panic attack.
“Welcome to the 2020s. If you do not already have an anxiety disorder, one will be assigned to you.” (swiped from Facebook with minor edit)
Walmart, Amazon and Staples are listing it for sale.
Also found a ‘recipe’ for it if you still have the right side spray bottle handy (~22oz):
… Make Your Own Clorox Anywhere Recipe
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of bleach.
- 22 oz. water. How easy is that? I saved my pretty little Clorox Anywhere bottle to mix it in, but you could pick up any inexpensive spray bottle that holds just over 22 ounces to put it in.

Don’t reuse a spray bottle that had a different type of cleaning chemical in it, therein lies big trouble!!
Interesting! I’ll have to give that a try. I need to buy a spray bottle anyway, since the sprayers on my remaining Clorox Anywhere bottles are all broken.
The nut butter ‘n’ jelly aisle is denuded. The price of rolls and muffins has jumped.
I had a spring break on my garage door. The repairman noticed some damage to the door itself and suggested it was time to replace it, but that it could take up to 14 weeks before it would be available. So add garage doors to the list, at least in the St. Louis area.
One “shortage” I am sure some folks are glad about: seasonal pumpkin spice products. I have seen only a few this year. I think just keeping up with their regular products has been enough for manufacturers this year.
Between this forum and articles like the on in The Atlantic that @Trom linked to, I’ve definitely been getting the sense that folks are perceiving major shortages. So I did a wander through my local Safeway, and my top-level takeaway is this: the shelves were fully stocked. Every specific product I thought to look for was well-stocked. I’ve definitely experienced shortages and delays for some things - eg, we ordered a car a couple weeks ago and likely won’t have it until April. But for ordinary consumables, everything seems fine.
Is this unusual? Is it just regional variance? Anyone up here in the Northwest experiencing specific shortages?
Still a shortage of canned cat fud and bagged litter around these parts. Word from the store is that the main problem is an aluminum shortage for one and a paper shortage for the other. I’ve also noticed that several of the local fast-food places are using generic fry bags and cups instead of their usual logo-ed ones.
I’ve seen similar in gas stations and convenience stores. I’m that guy that will frequently stop and get a big fountain drink if I’m out running errands or whatnot and a lot of them are just stocking plain white Styrofoam or plastic cups now instead of the usual branded cups.
